Oh yes - Diwali too - I had forgotten about that!Don't think we had on Eid al Fitr that I heard. Diwali, the big Hindu festival, generates some, though. It's in the Fall.

Anyone here can get a permit, which may help cut down a bit on the illegal aspects. Getting a good location is tough though, need special permission for a city park, can't be too close to buildings, etc. Helps to keep things safe. The community lake sets them off on one side of the lake where normally there is little there, mostly just fishing and some people launch their own water floaties. Entry isn't allowed on that side hours beforehand. Viewing is on the main park side, plus other places in the community give good viewing. They just do it once a year, a full fireworks display is pricey!Yup - most are done 'illegally' here - families, small groups etc. In public parks, school yards, middle of the street, empty parking lots, backyards. Not particularly safe. I think for the huge displays, that a particular license is required to purchase those type of fireworks & site safety inspections occur.
We hear them here too at the Eid celebrations to end Ramadan.
A few years back, my son & gf were in Paris on Bastille Day - went to see the fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower - that NOW was certainly memorable.
One year we were in Harper's Ferry, historic area of the US - on July 4 and really enjoyed the huge fireworks event.

Up at the cottage, we would get people firing them off their docks to celebrate birthdays and such.Diwali and New Years are when we tend to get some illegal ones.
Wonder if London has done that. We have fairly big South Asian population though a lot of them are Muslims.Fireworks at Diwali were made legal in our area.
