wow Mendalla-was it at least your home congregation?
Today Rev. Danielle was preaching on Hope. Every year the ministers at our church preach sermons based on the Oscar nominated pictures. Today the sermon was based on the movie, "Hidden Figures." The struggles and amazing accomplishments of the women in this movie and how they never gave up hope. We are blessed to have Rev. Danielle as her sermons are always thoughtful and inspiring.
Senior pastor was away so the youth minister preached the sermon. He spoke about a time in his life when two male friends of his were killed in a car accident and at the funeral how one of the boys sisters sang a song of joy in honour of her brother whom she had been very close to. He spoke how this had such a profound effect on him, that she could even sing at the funeral and that it was a joyful song. He then told us that he had told this story many many times to others including us on Sunday.
Years later, he ran into this woman and told her what a positive effect that she had on his life because at that time he had just been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 21....she said she never realized that she would have touched anyone that day because she was mourning the loss of her brother.......anyway, the point of his sermon was that sometimes we don't realize that how we live our lives may effect someone profoundly without us even realizing it.
Today a very impressive sermon by a retired minister. Rev. Frank is a contemporary of my late Dad so he must be around 90. He still preaches a powerful sermon. Today he was speaking about how people sometimes pass by a familiar scripture without really stopping and paying attention. God really does love creation and sometimes we miss how profound that is. Glad I was there today as it was a good reminder.
The pastor preached in a style I hadn't encountered before - off of his PowerPoint notes.
