Overnight oats - I should have tried these a long time ago!
I hate plain oatmeal. I like the flavoured instant packs. I've tried flavouring plain after the fact and it takes soooo much sugary stuff to make it taste reasonably good, and still isn't as good as the preflavoured stuff IMO.

I've been curious about overnight oats for a while, but have just haven't gotten around to it this week. I did cashew/coconut milk, I think it was almond butter and agave.
Not sure I would want to go without some kind of butter - peanut, nut or seed.
It was too liquidy for me too, can certainly reduce the 2:1 ratio of liquid to oats. Can also really go down on the sweetness, but considering my dislike of plain oats I decided to start generous with the agave.

Chemguy thinks the whole thing is gross. We're both add as little water as possible to the instant packs (he even uses less than I do, and I thought I was at the minimum, he has some dried bits in his). He also thinks it should only be hot. Fingers crossed that once I get the ratio just right I can throw some nutella in too and convince him to at least taste it (possibly after microwaving as well).
I used to run into the same issue of the sweetened oatmeal being too sweet. It worked for me doing 50/50 plain and flavoured. Just right.

If this oatmeal of which you speak is instant, it is in no way oatmeal. It more closely resembles wallpaper paste.

I make oatmeal using the kind that takes lo longer to cook. I add sliced almonds, some cream and fruit syrup from Summerland Sweets. My favourite syrup is Saskatoon Berry. Yum.

Overnight oats typically uses quick oats (not sure if that's the same as instant?), and that's what I did use, although it can be done with steel-cut or otherwise, but the ratios would likely need adjusting.
No cooking, just stick in the fridge.

Yes, Chemguy and I do use those packs & add boiling water - instant. Usually we get Apples & Cinnamon, sometimes we will get Peaches & Cream. PC used to have a blue menu version with cranberries and other, that one was good too but was discontinued.

Good morning, all! Hope you're enjoying your overnight oats. Here's some fresh tea and coffee to go with.

Good morning.

Nature’s Path makes good instant oatmeal. It’s not paste-like. Also, the high fibre and/ or steel cut varieties of Quaker brand instant are not pastey. I had a berry one that was good (the dehydrated berries are real and taste real with water added)...better quality than their regular instant oatmeal packs. The regular stuff can be pastey if you add too much water. I like them all anyway. The original instant packs used to be better quality when I was a little kid (and I loved instant apples and cinnamon, still do)...I think they came out in the 70’s. That was before most people had microwaves. Now, I think that it’s better...gasp...made in the microwave (less pastey) than made with boiling water.

We used to call overnight oats mixed in a blender with plain yogurt, canned pineapple, and a spoonful of honey, “Monster Mush”, when I was a kid. It’s really good. I have made it a few times but not for years.

Hello everyone .... Rita is finally back
This has been a busy and tumultuous time for me.
Current news .... my church burned down last week ... a total loss.
In July I visited Denmark with a friend. There will be details in the transgenderism thread as it is applicable there.
I am doing ok ... just a bit blue today.
Glad to be back!

Oh crap. Sorry to hear, Rita. My thoughts and good vibes to you and the rest of the congregation.

In July I visited Denmark with a friend.

Hope you had fun. We visited Copenhagen when Little M was still quite small and I quite liked the city. Also did a jog over to Billund to take Little M to Legoland.

Nice to have you back.

Good to have you back!

Sorry about your church, I hope they can find a suitable place to meet until something longer term is figured out.

Welcome back, Rita, sorry to hear about the church burning down. Hopefully the time ahead will bring less tumult and turmoil.

Oh dear - I read about that Sudbury church fire! That's a hard thing - to lose your church building, and such a shock too. Any thoughts in the congregation about rebuilding? That would be the positive aspect of this I suppose - a nice new purpose-built accessible, right-sized, eco-friendly building.

We are very positive and the heart is to rebuild.
We have secured a temporary location for the interim :)

Welcome back Rita. It's great to see you back. I'm sorry to hear that was your church that burned. I enjoyed seeing your travel pictures on FB.

:coffee: Enjoy a nice hot beverage and snack while you're here. The caterer is fabulous.

Greetings, all! The long weekend is upon us. Hope you have a chance to relax and breathe. Meantime, coffee cart awaits. Help yourself.

We has new neighbors. Lady across the street moved Tuesday-Wednesday, new owners arrived Thursday. Previous owner is more or less our age. One daughter is Little M's age, the other is just finishing high school. New owners are thirtysomething millennials with three kids ranging from 14 mos. to 7 years. A nice shot of youth for the street which is increasingly home to empty nesters and grandparents.

Good morning. The coffee is delicious, thanks. We also have new neighbours.....
It's a long weekend so the park is full. Lots of happy kids riding their bikes past us. The pool is likely a popular spot, as is the swimming hole in the creek.

We're heading to Comox for an arts and music festival today. It promises to be perfect weather for it.

Ooo- there's a great bakery (excellent sourdough!) and an interesting little distillery in Comox! Such a pretty area - hope you enjoy your day Northwind!

As the sun went down, I was watching the hummingbirds on the last few blossoms of my weigelia. I remembered when I first came to Canada for a visit ( we went to Victoria, BC, I thought that I would like to live in a country that has hummingbirds.
Question: Do hummingbirds come to all provinces and territories? They seem to be at least in the East and in the West.
