Yep! Did the walk (after walking around the grocery store). Four times before stopping to rest today. Then a fifth lap pacing with Seelerman on his 7th. He went on to do 8 while I rested again and caught my breath before heading out into the COLD. It's -17 today.

Had a great dinner tonight with old friends whom I had the good fortune to meet many years ago through the Zonta club. One woman is an architect - originally from Bangladesh, and for the past year & half living & working Qatar. Her sister , also an architect! - has moved to my area from Bangladesh also joined use; sister is adjusting to Canadian winter weather and has a strong inclination to hibernate! The fourth at our table is a lawyer, working for the past few years with the Bahai faith. So as you might imagine we had wide ranging conversation!

Good morning, Seeler. I'm awake early for me. Woke up shortly after 6am yesterday & today.

So, here's a pot of coffee for those just waking up. Hopefully it is the strength you prefer.

Aw, the aroma of freshly made coffee. Thanks Pinga. We have a bright crisp day here - COLD.
Seelerman has to drive his brother to the hospital and wait there while he has a medical procedure - and I'm expected at the church at noon-ish and without a car. As soon as I'm sure people are up and about, I'm going to have to phone some of the other volunteers and ask them to come out of their way to pick me up.
I know, I should be familiar enough to know the bus routes - but it's been years since I've taken the bus - and it's COLD - and I'm nervous walking where the footing might be rough and/or icy.

Yes, do be careful, seeler. These wild temperature swings are burying ice under skiffs of snow. Went ass over teakettle with the dogs last night and have a couple of rapidly developing monster bruises to show for it... Thanks for the coffee! (Yum, coffee I don't have to make myself - never happens here - my housemates are vampires, while I'm an early bird.)

ooooh, i dislike those falls, Bette. Take care of yourself. The aches as the pulled / jarred muscles work themselves out

I smell sewer gas, i think, this morning.
I have never smelled sewer gas in this house. I am wondering if the new drain that was put in last week is requiring some adjustment.
Waiting for husband to wake up for his opinion.

Also, I am going out for breakfast, so need to get my butt in gear. Watching news, reading news, reading posts, and drinking coffee...and 45min kinda flew by

Mystery of the sewer gas solved. Had the water heater replaced yesterday. Person had opened something in the drain, and hadn't closed it. Closed now. Probably take a day for the air to clear. May open windows despite the cold, if it doesn't clear by tomorrow morning.

Had a lovely coffee with a friend. She is involved in a service organization which I have been interested. She told me more about it and I will do more exploration online, but, I may have found one of my post-retirement engagements. Not too busy, monthly meeting, a few events a year.

Also discovered we both have a desire to travel to a location for a month and explore it and the region. I may have found a travel mate. She & I have worked together on projects and known each other for years. Think would be good travel mate, so we are going to explore that further in the months ahead.

Friend of mine has recommended some traction boot covers, so may pop over to Crappy Tire and have a look today while I'm out. Between the two of them, they're about 115 lbs of independent "nose", at different levels, one on the ground, the other bouncing long-leggedly through the snowbanks. And both bizarrely frigging strong. I probably should walk them solo in the winter, but leaving one or the other behind has its own logistical problems...

Nothing bizarre about it. Four legs beats two in the traction and strength department. That's also why they can outrun you without breaking a sweat. One of the evolutionary trade-offs of being bipedal. Gain use of forefeet as hands; lose some traction and power for running.

Two deaths of acquaintances on the same day (Wednesday). Visitation for both (at separate locations) at the same time on Sunday afternoon. Funerals for both at the same time (and separate locations) on Monday afternoon.
Both were popular, well known, well loved.
I want to go to both.
I'm trying to think.
My neighbour's visitation and funeral will both be held at the small church down the street. It will be overcrowded - standing room only, if you can get in. Yet I feel the need to give the widow a hug, speak to the sons (one of whom was in and out of my house often as a teenager and occasionally slept on the livingroom floor when a group would gather to watch a hockey game), see the brother-in-law who I used to work with. And be there for my son, who spent an equal or greater amount of his teen years at their home and who visited them every time he came home from Korea.

The other visitation/memorial will be at the University - bigger gathering, bigger hall - and the funeral will be at a larger church which should hold everybody. I don't know the family as well - but I knew and respected this professor/UCC minister - and I know his daughter through Presbytery and events we have both attended.

Sometime between now and Sunday I will have to decide.

Hmm. Tough one, @Seeler . Maybe the visitation at the church for the ones you know well since you'd want to share with them more personally and then the funeral at the university for the other where you are not as close to the family? I've had a lot of funerals to go to over the last two or so decades but never had two overlap like this.

Condolences on the losses to you and to the two families.
