I'm remembering new years eve's where my mother would have us all on the front porch with pots & pans -- hammering on them to ring in the new year.
She would also want a dark-haired man to cross the threshold after new years to bring good luck

A lot of the clutter I have is left from school. Old essays that I printed out... old textbooks I'm no longer using... etc.

Clutter has usually the attribute of darkness ... and the shadow is said to know as light heads off into the darkness ...

Tis something not to be ignored ... unless you religiously trend towards not knowing and not digging intuit?

Some label this the effort of naïveté ... and thus ignore it and then it creeps on them as something they've consciously dropped into the un cognizant area ... a singularity of a divine type !

One shouldn't ignore what you believe to be minor things ... so much is hidden in the details ...

I have tried the Ignore feature but find it better to just skip past the posts which don't interest me.

I use it for a couple special cases. It is, however, far from perfect at doing its job. We do need to get on with some upgrading of the software this year. Not sure if Ignore works better in the newer releases or not without hitting the Xenforo forums to research it.

So, how is everyone on this last day of vacation

Kids are back to school tomorrow

I am thinking of a retired coworker whose 26yr old vivacious, charming granddaughter died suddenly on new years day from an undiagnosed heart condition.

A reminder that we know not what tomorrow will bring

I don't need a button to help me with my own self-discipline.

I do not post in anger.

My only hasty responses tend to be levity based.

Because I am a Moderator I at least glance at new postings. I don't see much that I find goes way outside the bounds the community has set. Mind you we could all be a tad more mature in our worst moments.

I do not have to respond to anything. Even when I am being addressed. I choose to respond or I choose not to respond.

I presume everybody else has similar freedom.

So, how is everyone on this last day of vacation

Hi Pinga,

Doing well, thanks! I have been retired almost 3 years now so I have no worries about this "vacation" ending.

However, It still seems (and feels) like the end of the Holiday Season to me. My Christmas decorations are all put away and I have spent the last few days doing a little purging of stuff and a little re-arranging of various items. I usually find myself doing some of this at the end of the year but I was definitely inspired by @Carolla and her thread re: Marie Kondo's book.

Chrsitmas was good . . . good times with family and a wonderful church service on December 27. I love going to church on the Sunday after Christmas. . . Christmas Eve not so much.

My ignore list is empty. I've used it before, but I found it to be too much of a crutch. I'm a little better at not responding to things that will predictably get out of hand than I used to be.

Honest.

I started a thread on the topic in the tips/techniques area. I would be happy to respond to the negativity around this tool then, such as words like "crutch" and "self-discipline"

"Self-discipline" is a negative word now?

Heading out to see Star Wars tonight. Looking forward to hanging out with 3 friends, and then seeing the film. Reserved seats in an IMAX 3D experience.

There is a VIP seating movie theatre opening near us, and I have a sense it will be our go-to for any popular movie, and maybe even average ones. The benefits of comfortable seating, having a drink if you want one, and reserving your seat is worth it to me (and is to my oldestson though he is now living away).

I've also been watching a bunch of streamed movies this weekend. Having a total couch potato weekend. Next week will be busy as I go back to work and we finalize decisions on the basement.

I have been by theatres with VIP seating for years. I never actually gave it a try, it just seemed like a rip-off. The couches didn't really appear all that comfy, hard to judge without actually being in one.

Have you done the VIP seating already Pinga?

Pinga are you returning to work full time? The OT in me would suggest a gradual return to work. 2 days the first week , 3 days the next and then hold steady at 4 days a week and see how you do. Be gentle with yourself, but I do know that your work is very demanding and often has crazy hours.
