Your neighbour's funeral, I think, is the one to attend.

Send a card or an E mail condolence on the funeral Home site.

for the minister's family

Or think, if the shoe was on the other foot, what would your

neighbour choose to do for your family?

Sorry Seeler, for your losses. Yeah Pinga for the big decision. And Happy New Year everyone else. My daughter got engaged over the holiday, but now will need to wait a year or more for the paper work to move to the U.S. So, she and her son will be living with us for awhile yet. No complaints from me.

So Nancy will the wedding be before daughter moves?
It all depends. They will get married when it works for her son's schooling (she doesn't want to switch him in the middle of the year) and when the immigration is close to being finalized. She wouldn't mind being married one or two months before she actually moves, but won't get married if it will be a year or more. But, on the plus side, her engagement ring is gorgeous!

Best wishes to your daughter Nancy, and enjoy this year that she and her son will be with you.

Fifty years ago today I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl - 5 lbs, 7 oz but healthy and strong. A sister for our 12 1/2 month old son. Today she is a beautiful self-confident middle-aged woman. Last evening Pete (her partner) had us out to their place for a party for her. Beautiful decorated home, delicious snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks - beautiful decorations - and beautiful, smiling, interesting people. Grandson mingling among them with a coke in his hand. Everything I could have wanted for my daughter! (Seelerman and I were 20 years older than the group but they treated us well.)

This afternoon I will attend the visitation for my neighbour. It will be my best chance to see his family and offer my condolences (and those of my son from around the world) in person. His funeral will be tomorrow, but the church is small and I expect there will be a crowd. He was active and well loved in the community -- yesterday there was a story about his loss in the daily newspaper - in addition to his obituary. I imagine there will be standing room only at the funeral.
So Monday, I will attend the funeral for the retired minister/professor. There was a front-page write up about him in Friday's paper. His funeral will be big, but it is being held at a large church. (I'll probably see Luce Nds there.)

Happy Birthday to Seelergirl.

I had a totally lazy do nothing day yesterday. Slept in. Did some research on trips. Watched movies. I think it was just recovery time for the first day of work, announcing retirement and a few other items going on.

So my lazy day had some decisions and plans being made regarding the following:
I will be spending a total of 3 weeks at my workplace in the US between now and the end of February, so working on ensuring best weeks were confirmed. Lots of hecking on family plans and other events. I will stay over one weekend and drive to my sister's.
I will be headed to a sunny destination in March with my sister to celebrate her 50th and my retirement. I think we are going to Mexico, and have decided on an all inclusive of a chain that I have top status with. It will be a thoroughly spoiled tourist vacation in the Cancun area, not the kind that we had originally planned, but probably the kind that will do both of us good. Also, we won't be far from Cirque du Soleil's new show in Mexico so we will include it as well.
At the end of May or the beginning of June, a friend and I are travelling to Newfoundland. She wishes to see icebergs and I was planning to visit my son, so I said that I would talk some time onto my time with my son to be a tourist to see icebergs (and of course other items). So, looking to buy those tickets soon and get that planned out.

For movies, we have a streaming box, so I swore at it a lot due to technical hiccups, but got those straightened out, and watched a bunch of movies. Some better than others, mainly pop culture rather than deep movies.

Today is a busy day getting me out of the house and doing things, including a baby shower. Interesting, the guys are going to a diaper shower at the same time. I am DD.

Had a lovely afternoon at the shower. Fun to sit with all the young women, and aunts that I have come to know.
There were 4 pregnant young women all with the same last name...all granddaughter's or granddaughter-in-law of my brother-in-law's parents. Lots of babies this year.

in sadder news, I was advised that a friend with the same cancer as me, a year ahead of me, but, also more advanced than mine at discovery has received some touch news. She knew there was cancer, knew it had come back, but turns out to be many tumours. She is strong and we will hope for chemo to hold off progression...but she has a tough haul ahead of her. Thinking of her as she recovers from the latest round of surgery.

Nasty night in Southern Ontario. Apparently, someone finally got the memo about it being January. Not too bad in London right now, just windy, but the OPP have closed two highways in Huron County North of here.

Now that we finally have snow and ice, I have fallen twice while walking my dog. The worst was this morning when my legs flew out from under me and I went down HARD on one hip. Ouch. It still hurts. Then I had to drive for an hour to get to the church where I was leading the service. Driving was a little painful. Now...a hot bath is calling out to me. Hope it does the trick.

Ouch Nancy. Soak in that hot bath - and find another wway of getting the dogs oout.

Seelerman and I would love to have another animal in the house but question our ability to care for them.

Seelerman and I both like cats and dogs - but you are right, he is more partial to cats. So we have considered several times getting a kitten or young cat. At one time we were so close that I had bought some cat food and a litter box and thought we would be on our way to the SPCA that afternoon when he said 'let's think more about this'. I was disappointed, but perhaps he was thinking of all the trips he would make to the basement to change the litter box, the arranging someone to come around if we were away, and the fact that whatever pet we get now has a real likelihood of ourliving us. He decided. I think I would have gone ahead - but I'd prefer a well trained Lab. (We could open the door and let Pepper out to do her business and then come back in when we called without having someone out with her - and I generaelly walked her off leash with her at my left side.) She shed hair everywhere.

How about an ant farm. No litter box required, and you'll outlive the ants for sure.

Enjoyed the drive home last night. Some blowing snow, but not too much. Had to follow a salt truck for a while, which was slow. Overall, took an extra 30 minutes. The SUV is fitted out for winter, so driving in that stuff was a breeze.

Ouch, Nancy. Chronic problem of mine with the crazy hounds.
@Seeler , one option is to put your name into the local vets for any seniors who are having to give up pets due to moving into care or ill health.
It might be an option.

Absolutely. I probably need my head examining, but that's exactly how I ended up acquiring my old Basset Hound last winter.
