Jesus may have shown some kindness toward women; however, he failed to challenge systemic patriarchy. His ambiguous stance on gender equality allowed later Christian interpretations to reinforce female subjugation.

By selecting only male apostles, he set a precedent excluding women from leadership, one still cited by religious groups today. His teachings were later interpreted to demand female submission (e.g., "Wives, submit to your husbands").

Many religious communities continue restricting women's rights through these traditions. Had Jesus explicitly advocated for full gender equality, history might have unfolded differently, rather than perpetuating the oppressive structures women still fight against today.

MLK Jrs whole role in life was to forward the civil rights movement in the U.S. gaining full rights for people NOT deemed to be white. So, it would be very confusing to cast MLK white. However, it would not be ridiculous to make MLK female.

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t an important figure for civil rights and that he didn’t risk, and sacrifice, his life for that cause. His courage undoubtedly inspired other justice movements. Jesus’ story, from a Christian point of view, opens the door for universal human justice movements, so it makes sense that the perfect blameless human would be portrayed by a more diverse individual yet Universally Human person.

Not an alcoholic per se but even if he was I’m not judging just trying to support my point about why keeping MLK cast as a man who was misogynist would be an interesting juxtaposition, and real. He wasn’t a superhero. And nobody said he was sinless, unlike Jesus. This is one version of MLK’s personal story that I remember reading about. Didn’t see the play. Nowadays there are lots more slanderous things being said about him - probably coming from the far right trolls - so I don’t want to confuse those, with this - which was several years ago. I admire MLK. He wasn’t sinless but he was important.
