Is a female playing the role of Jesus blasphemous?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

You could simply gender bend the song "she's a man, she's just a man". I know this is confusing for you, but it's really not a new phenomenon or challenge. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss made an album a few years ago, Raising Sand, absolutely phenom album (produced by T-Bone Burnett) where there was a lot of gender confusion. They're both contraltos, basically, Alison's range is a little wider, so they can play with the gender of the singers. As NW pointed out upthread, early English theatre had all parts played by males. Gender is a complicated construct. I just finished the book Conclave on which the recent movie was based. The spoiler of the whole story was that the pope elected by this imaginary conclave was a biological female.

Look, if telling someone that their child died because they didn't pray right doesn't get you kicked out, then nothing does.

I don't know what sort of community you think we have, DL. There's a fair bit of hostility around here with or without Berserk. You don't help sometimes with your wyrd mansplaining, and I know my temper doesn't help.

There are people here whom I have met and love. There are people here with whom I would not choose to share physical space.
Thank you for sharing that with me

In my experience, and I have been doing the computer thing since I was like 12, this is a special community. Different than most others I have visited.

Most of us here have been around each other forever in internet years

Those who have stayed have gone through, I see, the Storming and Norming that Jayne intro'd us to in the past. Those who don't fit have left, cast off into the Outer Dark

I see this as a community of friends and I have expectations of people's behaviour here, so whenever I come across something that seems strange or different in someone's behaviour, it kinda sends me?

I see us, collectively, more recently, becoming more political?

And I do not like causing trauma or having trauma inflicted on me -- what is going on over the past 10 years is crazy and, wow, it is getting tougher for me to make it through? Anxiety, etc etc

So my self care is now including, sadly, cutting communication off with some. Which so goes against my nature

And I think Mystick is one of those who just add chaos. Which I think this community does not need. There actually are such things as good and bad, everything isn't equal or so relative that it becomes nihilistic

Of course I am writing from my trauma.

I hope you all figure this oot. What is important. What isn't. What is healthy. What isn't. And so forth.

Anyway, sorry @Mendalla for the derail. This will be my last on that subject in this thread.

Peace and joy to you all

Then kick him oot
His level of divisiveness is unfortunately bad for our community
Our community is more important
It's not my call. Back in the day I alerted his supervisor in the United Methodist Church about Berserk's online persona. I was told he would be required to take a course on how to conduct yourself online. Berserk retired before taking the course.

He is, simply, the worst person who ever set foot in a Wondercafe-related forum. But he's a minister so he gets to say hateful things and get away with it, and then apparently most people here forget he said them in the first place.

Just to correct the record, it was shortly after Carter's cardiac arrest, while he was struggling with a traumatic hypoxic brain injury in the Sick Kids CCCU, that Berserk offered to pray with me. I declined, and was told I "must not want healing that badly."

Direct quote. Because I don't have the memory of a goldfish.

You are either just lying or you badly misunderstood what I said. First of all, I consider Rabbi Kushner's "Why Bad Things Happen to Good People" a much needed book. Yes, I have seen young children healed through faith and prayer, but many have also died, despite prayer. I wouldn't expect an atheist like chansen to suddenly conjure the faith in Carter's healing to cure his son. So the more vexing question for me is, why didn't my own prayers for Carter do any good? That failing is a matter of regret because, if Carter had been healed through my prayer, chansen may well have become a theist. True, in some cases, the combination of focused faith and strong longing can be conducive to healing miracles. Lourdes is a prime, often medically verified case in point. But God is sovereign and the frequency of miracles is a mystery. As Ecclesiastes says, "All are victims of time and chance. "
I have been part of prayer groups where healing miracles occurred. But apart from that, I have, sadly, never seen a healing miracle through my individual prayer, though I have had countless paranormal and supernatural experiences.

Yeah, I'm the liar.

And it wasn't just me. In that moment, I recall Rev. Steven Davis suggesting you leave and never come back. Somehow we lost him and kept you.

You are an a**hole of epic proportions and the most name-droppingest, delusional and self-important person I've ever encountered. And I thought that long before the Carter comment.

The only good thing about you is your lack of charisma. You'd be dangerous if you had the ability to attract a following.

That failing is a matter of regret because, if Carter had been healed through my prayer, chansen may well have become a theist.

It sounds like you were only praying for Carter so that you could win and look good for converting a dyed in the wool atheist. That's pretty selfish.

That he suggested to someone that they leave is really uncharacteristic of him. He must have really felt strongly about it

So, Berserk uniformly makes humans wish to vomit.

Berserk, how does that make you feel? Do you ever feel an urge to apologize to us? You totally owe us.

Brother, if a Jewish person were to tell you that they're concerned about you and that they're praying for you, would you become angry?

Let's see if anyone here is actually capable of staying on the "Jesus Christ Superstar" topic. Concider Mary Magdaline's song, "I Don't Know How ti Love Him:"

Mary Madgalene's phrase, "He's a man; He's just a man," is hilariously awkward if a woman is cast as Jesus!

In Hebrew that's "heh" an "Ξ" just hanging out as a flame ... that's chi quo! Further alien concerns ... there's a lot out there beyond the pious and fixated ... edified in 3 layers ... stacked like the medium in Caduceus, or the other 2 faced guise! The Latinos use a similar term for Americanos ... they don't like them either ... god, the word is extensive when you get into it ... the word as a god is deep and also at times hyper ... that's high, aye?

Exponentially so ... few can get beyond a spot ...

The point here is this: Berserk views proselytizing like a competitive fisherman views fishing: Always on the lookout for the next big catch. As an outspoken atheist, I would be a huge catch.

And that's all we are to him - catches of varying sizes. We are a target market because a lot of us are more liberal Christians, and that's still a decent catch if he can convince you.

And so if a lot of his posts seem like lectures, that's because they are. If his claims seem like scams, that's because they are. The truth is not important - it's the catch. He'll use anything as bait, but it's always going to be an artificial lure.

And yet, we never swim away. We're goldfish, after all. We forget a few seconds later.

Interesting point in a Forbes article. There was an all-female concept album version called She Is Risen so Erivo is not even the first female Jesus. And guess who played Mary Magdalene on She Is Risen? Yep, Erivo.

This isn’t the first time that Jesus Christ has been played by a female actress in Jesus Christ Superstar—in fact, Erivo previously sang the role of Mary Magdalene on two all-female She Is Risen concept albums in 2017 and 2020.

I don't think Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber needs your help defending his show. From the Hollywood Bowl website's announcement of the show:
Presented by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Limited
That's Sir Andrew's company which manages the rights for all his works. If they didn't like it, they could have refused the rights. Clearly, they are cool with it and, as I point out above, it's not even a first. Nor is having a Black Jesus. John Legend played the part in NBC's TV version years ago and I'm pretty sure he was not even the first.

I, for one, wish I was going to be in LA in August. Hopefully, the Hollywood Bowl, the LA Philharmonic, or Erivo posts a highlight or two on YouTube once it's over.

Folk lore to drag the thing down to fish meal? Thus many fall into the dark pool ... there's a scene in Master & Commander like that!

We serve something we know nothing about and ... ask no questions ... seems like a drive for innocence or something else that's stew PID ...

Then folk vote for things like the unmentionable? It ineffable but we just can't bear to impeach the fuzzy item ... more materialism for the comedy grinder ...
