The premier of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl was on Friday. To the surprise of no one who knows her work, Cynthia Erivo knocked "Gethsemane" so far out of the park that they are still looking for the ball. She got a standing ovation. Bravo! Magnifico!

Phillippa Soo, TV and stage actress/singer, proves to be an equally capable Mary Magdalene. And the Temple scene before is well-executed, too.

"I Don't Know How To Love Him" has to be the most beautiful song from Lloyd-Webber's pen. Later works like "Memory" and "Music of the Night" are great, don't get me wrong, but this is the one that launched his string of great ballads.

Former American Idol and Queen frontman Adam Lambert is playing Judas and they are taking full advantage, with hard rockin' take on "Too Much Heaven on Their Minds".

And holy hell, is Cynthia tiny when she's standing next to Adam.

Kudos to a guy named Dan Saunders who made these great fan vids. See them soon. If they are planning to release this, they'll probably hit him with a takedown soon.

I think the first video that I posted from the show handily answers the question of whether she is right for the part. She nailed that song like few before her have. Brilliant singer navigating difficult musical material with skill while still capturing the emotional content. That's what I want from this show and Cynthia has it in spades.
