Welcome to Canada and ha ha about having proper winter clothes. Here's reality. October is mild. IT will get Colder, and darker. Long underwear and ski pants will be your friends..
I am now in mild BC but I did live above the arctic circle.
Get out lots in winter. It helps.
Glad you are settling in at a church. and warmest wishes.

Thanks, Tabitha!

Good to see you here on WC2 again @GiancarloZ and welcome to Canada.

Thanks, paradox3!

We had about 45 cm of snow on Monday and Tuesday. About 80% of the snow in the sun has melted over the last 3 days of mild weather. We are supposed to get about 10 to 15 cm of snow in Calgary this coming Monday and Tuesday, but a few days later the temperatures are supposed to climb to the 10 to 13C level. We might even go camping the weekend of October 19 to 21. After that, the campervan gets winterized and parked until next spring. Right now just going to the evening services at a nearby Presbyterian church. They are having a series of guest preachers as their new staff arrives and settles in.

Thank you everybody by your warm welcome, and happy thanksgiving.
Today we were officially introduced as new parishioners, and we had a beautiful Choral Eucharist. The church was nicely ornate with flowers, fruits and vegetables, and it was quite packed. The churches here in Winnipeg have been an experience very different from what I imagine, as all of the ones we visited where quite full.

I'd be religious if I lived in Winnipeg, too. :D (joke, BTW)

Sounds like a nice service. Glad you find a church that suits you.

It's curious how choosing a congregation has much more to do with the congregation itself than the denomination.

I know it all too well. At heart, I am very much a Unitarian Universalist but the local congregation just doesn't do much for me right now. I feel more at home in the more progressive United Church congregations, though they aren't really perfect either. Which is why I'm unchurched right now.

Hope you can find a suitable spiritual home in due time!

Today the message was by Rev. Don Workman. He was preaching on the Gospel of Thomas. It does sound interesting and worth a read. One passage he read was similar to the "seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you" passage from the Bible. It was better though than the traditional Bible reading as it didn't stop at seek and you will find, but carried on to say and "when you find, you will be disturbed and troubled. And when you work through being disturbed and troubled you will find wonder!" Not sure when I was last encouraged to wonder in the traditional Bible. ;)

Last week we heard of the children of the imagination (Egypt?) which led onto this week into the escaping the imagination which needed some structure ... thus out of the dark earth rose a tree of plot, scheme, or conspiracy to guide the imaginary children inside the soul. Hebrew box lettermen?

Some people do not believe children can be abstracted from implicit source deep within ... possibly due to lack of imagination about how things could get better ... thus we a re stuck with the real truth of power ... tis corruption ... and the imagination wastes away! Thus a great range of lost fonts ... proving the point that even the word of God alters from ancient English Gothic in a whirl that could bring on vert Egos ... and green eyes in the shadows ... avarice?

I have finished putting together the service for a week tomorrow. it is about risking faith, daring hope based on GC$#, and thank God for their resources. I have a rough idea of my reflection-just need to get it down for me-and I'm busy location pictures.. I will not create the powerpoint a volunteer (actually we have a roster) will do it from the outline I made. Thinking of Carolla but also of those who do this weekly! It is Presbytery weekend-hence the slot for me to speak, but then all former Presbyters were also invited. I'll go up Fri and Sat and come home Sat. night. It's just over 2 hours away.

If you join in the WC2 Gift exchange Giancarlo you might receive a cosy hat or scarf or mitts! Whatever - it is always a fun thing to share gifts of any variety.

Anyone who draws his name, send sunscreen. That would be hilarious. Send the Brazilian living in Winnipeg sunscreen in December....

I am just not a nice person.

You will find a thread devoted to this fun event on the Social board.

Even Winnipeg residents need sunscreen. Chansen, you really ought to know that - I expect you or someone you know has returned from time outside in the winter with a sunburned face!

I'm wondering what the cross country skiing is like in Winnipeg?
