Covid 19 Vaccine

I found the statements out out by NACI completely unhelpful and dangerous. People are already confused about the rules, the vaccines, the worries about safety, the worries about variants.......

I feel for Trudeau , who was trying yesterday to unmuddy the water.

I found this article helpful:
How long does it take for the Covid 19 vaccines to become effective?

It's interesting that it's reporting an efficiency of 92.3% for Pfizer, 14-21 days after first shot, which only rises to 95% after the second vaccination. Makes the second vaccination look less than necessary?

The second is supposed to make it last longer, though, so I would say don't go there. Get both.

Why are the restrictions not easing up for folks who got their first vaccine a month ago? Surely it would be safe for a few people to gather outdoors. Or even go back to those social bubbles we had until early October in this province.

Because I don't think we have an easy way to track it. I got an e-mailed receipt from Ontario Health after mine but do you really think cops are going to spend the time checking people in groups to make sure they all have one? Is it even designed for that purpose? It's a fairly big, clunky PDF and likely not terribly secure. Forgeries would be out and about in the anti-vax community in no time, I imagine. So I don't think it is as simple as saying "vaccinated people get looser rules." There needs to be ways to confirm, securely and accurately, who is and isn't vaccinated and I am not convinced Ontario is there.

That's part of the basis for increasing the interval between doses. Another study showed that some immunocompromised people like me only get minimal protection from one dose and that a second dose gives good protection. It's a small study that makes me wonder what else they will learn

In the USA supply of the vaccine is outpacing the demand. New Jersey is offering 'a shot and a beer' - get your vaccine shot and you receive a card to get a free beer at a participating brewery. Krispy Kreme donuts is offering a free donut to anyone showing their vaccine card.

How do millennials book vaccine appointments? Social media.
Chemguy tried the AhS site, it wasn't even allowing him based on info. I told him to lie, he had a long wait just to book so gave up. I'm not a huge fan of a mass clinic anyway, seems fairly risky. He tried pharmacies around here, no luck. Facebook someone shared a pharmacy had appointments for this weekend, he got in for the first open day they had - 14th!

I wish I was more alert, I got called this morning woke me up, one of the places I was wait listed I should have seen if he could have gone in my place.

Agreed. The NACI statement was waaay out of line. And then today one of Ford's ministers made some stupid statement about Pfizer not being an effective vaccine re variants, based on some article from Qattar - which apparently has been scientifically refuted. Party politics are coming into play more and more at the cost of human lives - makes me feel disgusted.

And then there's Min of Health Elliott - disregarding the repeated science table advice on recommended duration of increased vaccine supply to Peel Region - "oh we think 2 weeks will be enough to somewhat decrease the rates of transmission" - more half-assed mitigation effort by Ford's gov, no effort toward substantive effect. Sorry - rant over. Going to go knit now.

Know what? I am almost prepared to suggest that spreading BS propaganda to deliberately try to derail vaccination campaigns should be a criminal offence. Free speech be damned, it's right up there with hate speech in terms of potential damage and does not merit protection any more.

Why just 18+?
Supply. As it is they ran out in no time. Little M checked and apparently the Ottawa pharmacies only got 2250 doses. So the more appropriate question is why they made it that low if they couldn't give out supply to handle it.

I wonder if youth at high risk can get it now if under 18
MLHU is still showing 16+ for at risk but it has not been long since Health Canada have the green light for Pfizer in 12-25 year olds so maybe it hasn't been changed in Ontario yet.

They changed the need for a doctor's note here before Health Canada approval- I think the day before. 12+ booking for all starts tomorrow.
