How was church today?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Don't worry, you're not the only one, Red. I'm rather of the same mindset. Sure, we should mourn the loss of so many youth, but we should also look at the real causes of those wars and make sure we can avoid repeat performances.
Alas, our track record for that so far isn't terribly encouraging...

Todayz Worship
Was physical
A church's rector house has had its longterm tenants move out
So I joined in in the massive movement to get it refurbished for the new tenantz
Today I got to pull staples out of stairs and carpet bits and sand etc the rough and smoodgy bits
I have at least 1 blister woot!
And am feeling one of the best highs, endorphins and spirit grounding
Fellowship with fellow human beings

Happyness is a warm bum,

Fun church service today. The theme was Thanksgiving. The pastor gave a good message about being thankful in all circumstances. Next, I shared about things I was thankful for - being in Korea, the 11th wedding anniversary of Yobo and I, and salvation in Christ. Then, the pastor invited people in the congregation to come to the front and say what they were thankful for. Almost every9ne did so.

Afterwards, a tasty lunch of muffins, salad, chicken, crunchy snacks, and small oranges was served.

One of the best parts of church for Yobo and I today was that we brought our granddaughter Yusu for the first time ever. She had a great time in Sunday School, waited patiently through the end of the church service, and then pigged out on crunchy snacks for lunch.

The 4 th floor comes forth as displaced ... with interest i stuffing the physical bean ... a plant by Jack! Some say Jacob an obtuse underlying persona disposed by those detesting strange intel*li*gence and alien concepts of sol ... foreign intelligents ... inside men of the myth?

So much hidden because of laws of loss ... thus it went as entropy ... hard to grasp!

The coming forth is the dance of whatever or just Dan as redacted ... you know Denise?

I'm looking forward to church today. A former Moderator will be the anniversary message. They are an excellent speaker and much loved by our congregation. There should be a good crowd - good weather and people have had time to dig out from Friday's snow storm. But they will have to be good to top the message I saw in action yesterday morning.

We were holding our pre Advent LGBT2AQ luncheon - a pot luck affair where 'all are welcome'. We didn;t expect a crowd because of the snow the day and the general busyness of the season; we set up dozen - then added another table for four (in case Elijah showed up unexpected). We asked a blessing and were about to line up for self serve, when two men showed up at the door. hey were not part of our loosely organized group; nor were they among those who often show up for our Wednesday free lunch. They looked like maybe they had slept in their clothes and hadn't had an opportunity to shave, or even have a good wash for a few days. They stood at the door looking bewildered, as though they had mistakenly come to the wrong place.

Then one of the organizers stepped forward. 'We're about to have lunch. Will you please join us?'
they were helped to fill their plates and seated with others at a table for six. Iwasn't at that table but I could tell from my place that there was a lively conversation going on - one was quite a talker, the other a man of few words but pleasantly smiling and sometimes voluntering a comment or two.

After the meal they went on their way, each with a 'doggy bag' of leftovers (there are always leftovers at a potluck, even when someone 'forgets').
As we cleaned up the parkour and kitchen, some one remarked, "It's a good thing we set an extra few places. Elijah did show up."

Received a message tonight via KakaoTalk of a new group that's forming at our church. It's to be a group for multicultiral families. We'll meet once a month for encouragement and fellowship. The first gathering will be Dec. 1 at our pastor's place for a potluck meal. Sounds like fun.

It does. Something I've never seen at churches here but maybe they happen more informally.

Anniversary Sunday for us - 193 years. Last night was a big Anniversary Dinner - full house & good energy as lots of former members & youth returned to celebrate our history in this community - poignant because we are amalgamating at the end December. It was nice to catch up on news with so many people. Our preacher this morning was Scott Beckett, born & raised in our congregation, who recently completed his MDiv and is now doing his internship in a nearby community. He preached well, full of memories (yes, he did play baby Jesus in the pageant when he was just age 1 year - an although not an actual memory for him, he's heard the story often enough!) and hope for the future as we amalgamate.

Hoping the amalgamation process goes smoothly.

I'll gather my thoughts later on the sermon about a haze I awe ... and the Haze a' Ka eh? Right out of I's AI awe ... at the bright flash in the Deis time ... that can blind!

This may an especially difficult time if watching rye ladies at the wash tub ... Ms Tress of the Pool?

Attended Knox today, sermon was by Rev Dave Holmes. Sermon was about Hannah and the mystery of how we sometimes get what most desire. The mystery is we can’t pigeon hole God since we often don’t get what we desire. Have to admit I have never liked the Hannah character for what she did with her son Sam. Same way I despise Abraham for taking his kid up the mountain to offer as a human sacrifice. Guess I need to work on paying attention to Jesus’s teaching about not being judgemental. Ha ha ha so now on with my day.

Even Moses got Aaron to assist with the judgement while Moses observed from a crack in the stones ... caused by reaction to God's appearance ... a great blow?

Nice service today. Busy. We had a guest group of hand bell players, it was also a welcoming Sunday for new members. The discouraging thing is that, of the 6 new members, 4 were over 80... One was my public school Principal.

Why is that discouraging to you Bette?

Church was good today. I haven't been as often through the fall. Was nice to go and worship.

Took me 30 min to get there, htough, from our new home location.
Used to be 15 min

Because the work and the future of the church is not in the hands of 80 something year olds. Love to have them, but would love to see more younger folk joining. There's quite a few of us in our late 40s, 50s, 60s, but almost nothing between that and the children/youth. Most of our kids are either coming independently, or they are brought by grandparents, or great-grandparents.

It seems we have a different perspective. I believe that one and all who come can contribute to a church and its future. There is ministry enough, of one kind or another, for every person to do. I get the need to have young people attend, but I don't view older people attending as a disappointment.

It really is the disproportionality that disturbs me for the future of the church. 6 new members, yay! Except that 4 of them are (well) over 80, one, who I don't really know well, looks to be in her 70s. The remaining fellow is a really nice guy in his 30s. When 5 out of 6 of your new members are (senior) seniors, you've got a demographic problem in the making.

One must admit the elders will generally pass first ... and without the fount ... nothing follows?

The seminal ideology must be got over ... thus maqon love ... and appropriate space! Laissez Faire Heh?

No too many would interfere with the conjunctions ... with injunctions ...
