By LGBTQ, and secular society in general, leaving space for conservatives to live their values in the private sphere. So don't force them to perform gay marriages in their churches, for instance.

The problem is the individuals and groups on both sides who refuse to be satisfied with live and let live and can only accept a society that enforces their rules.

Actually, I might reword that as "Love and let love". Not just in the romantic sense, but the agape sense, too.

Most Americans, including Tea Partiers and other alt-righters, who oppose LGBTQ rights do so because of the "Christian" (in quotes for a reason) position.

The only exception I can think of might be the small segment of LGB and feminist activists who are transphobic, and that's usually down to putting their self-interest ahead of other's rights. They see aligning with the trans lobby as hurting their credibility or somehow risking their interests, which is simply wrong-headed. Fighting for the rights of one minority can only help the cause for others.

And Jordan Peterson and the IDW. JP especially, has been pushing that - and he's influencing the American right, with the help of Tucker Carlson. In Canada, right around day of the news about Trump's possible intentions , he was back on Twitter pushing against the use of different gender pronouns again, and encouraging his fans to enter an essay contest on the subject. They were thanking him onTwitter profusely for getting back onto that subject, and almost treating him like a god-emperor. Americans were lamenting that they couldn't enter the contest...

Why do these people want to go after trans rights?

Except that, northwind, politics has been brought into in the U.S. The current American POTUS wants every child decided, permanently, as "male" or "female" based on genitalia.

That's a good point. I guess I was reacting to seeing Dr Peterson brought into the discussion.
 
I don't mind this particular inclusion of some politically relevant posts.
We that are trans come up against the opinions and effects of politics each and every day. This is a huge part of our struggle just to live in the present day society.
Further.... I will say that religion, in particular the conservative fundamentalist evangelical sects are the big drivers and negative influencers of present day conservative politics.
Each and every negative policy affecting LGBTQ persons can be easily linked back to that base. I personally live with the consequences.
There is a personal painful story that I will share here as soon as I have processed it so that I am mentally safe to share it.
It occurred this past Sunday afternoon.
Mentally I am doing much better and the medication and diligent work on therapy are yielding good results. However I am still fragile and I am being careful of the amount and kinds of stress I subject myself to. That is why I have not been around much. I so much enjoy a good lively debate but at present it takes too much out of me and saps energy I need for daily living.
My physical transition is complete and as I had long expected and feared the real hard work has begun. This is a common condition for us and one that is next to impossible to prepare for and simply needs to be lived out. No complaints there, .... I am used to doing the hard things.
I will share more as we go along.

On the bright side...my life is so much happier and livable now ☺
Along with the negative we need to discuss I have so much positive I would love to share ☺.

We're in uncharted territory here
Having 2 in some sense make things up
I sincerely think that physicalism or materialism is showing its age and trans r here 2 break the world. Another reason why i think its very odd for both trans and non trans to focus on atoms and chemicals when it isn't obviously aboot that; its immaterial. Spirit. Soul. And such. Onez identity will never die and society can never take that away from yas.

We just have to larn to think differently lol (the how we are taught...that everything is atoms and chemicals spurting...)

Ad 'M and the other blasting into spatial domains and leaving us in Eve ... a dark spot! Thus diversionary tactics about blaming the people for everything ... and thus the minimum wage should diminish ... a lesser genre!

I have a question or two that aren't political.

How can I best be constructive for a struggling young person? I have always loved, and been loving towards this youngster. In response there is a precious trust and openness towards me. Now, in High School, the struggles are around how much to share with others. How much effort to put into 'fitting in' (small town). Most of all - how to KNOW where you fit on that sliding scale of human differences.
I have almost no personal experience of these things to guide me. Should I be doing more than listening for understanding? Should I initiate conversations or leave that timing to the young person? Should I share my own views about where this person is on the LGBTQ2 spectrum?
I feel like my role is important and yet have no solid ideas about how to be a help rather than a hindrance.
