Last night we watched the movie "Colette" - based on the true life of a French woman author around the early 1900s; most of her work (much of it a bit steamy for its time) was published under her husband's name (but that's for another thread!) They lived lives of infidelity, eventually by agreement, until their eventual divorce. She had relationships with people of both genders. One of her long term relationships was with a woman who dressed as a man, wore her hair cropped - and most likely would have been seen as trans if that language had been around then. It was just interesting to me to get some perspective on how that life might have been lived over a hundred years ago. Social condemnation was widespread and violent. (I do recommend the movie BTW :-) )

Imagine all the stuff that goes on under cover of dark Ness ...or down the pipes ...

Rifts or glenns ...

We saw Colette a while ago and really enjoyed it. I had the same thoughts about the woman who dressed as a man. I thought she preferred the pronoun "he". I thought too about how scandalous it was in those days for a woman to just wear pants. I'd like to see that movie again.

Ok now a 4th young one in our circle is switching female to male -so 3 female to male and one non-binary. Is this the normal ratio? I sort of expected 1/2 would be male to female.

Hmmm...funny that the trans kids who have been attracted to our youth group, and the still semi closeted trans amongst our adult congregation, are all male to female. But it seemed more even at the last Presbytery type LGBTQI2S+ event I went to, so it seems to even out "on the ground" so to speak.

Jae non-binary came from computer language. It is a term that means an individual does not identify as male or female.

Thanks Bette for your perspective.

If not with or against ... are we out-of-it?

No means and mediums allowed ... that's beyond us in intellectual process ... all that counts is desire ... tis a abstract, obscure domain to be sure until right in to it ... storms of great shadow to the alternate ...

Interestingly, I have never met a trans person face-to-face (I've known several online including Rita, but never in person) but had a nice conversation with a non-binary person the last time I visited the UU fellowship. They are a new member who joined after I left.

Those that vanished bi nary a clue left! Could be the nothing that composes the aspiration of having a psyche ... thus construction on night Eire ... heironeous?

Thus it took off ... de oude of hear man as silent ... goff igur ... tis writ ... for wry entanglement ...

Upon reflection I do know in person 2 male to female (and know of another) but all are a generation or so older than the female to males I had mentioned.

Video of Céline Dion Destroying the Gender Binary
There are and tasteful and distasteful ads targeting every gender and demographic, selling every product. There are tasteful and distasteful products of all types. That locates the problem with commercialism/ corporate marketing, not with the groups of people they're targeting.

Subtext? I think the ad is most likely about Celine Dion trying to corner the market on black and white T-shirts for babies, with block letter slogans on them than it is about gender or representing a cause. Hers is not really that original of an idea. Remember back in the 70s, even, when "My grandma went on vacation and all she got me was this stupid t-shirt." ? Targeted the snowbird demographic.

Besides, gender neutral clothing for babies is not new (Oshkosh bgosh overalls and striped tshirts - remember those - they were pretty gender neutral when they started.)

However...as in my earlier comment, this is about money making more than anything. Coca Cola ads weren't really about world peace and unity - the problem isn't with peace and unity, it's with worshipping the brand that is claiming to support it.

Celine Dion Ends Gender With Gender Neutral Baby Clothing Line And Iconic, Bizarre, And Hilarious Commercial

The writer of this article thinks the ad is great. I can see their point, too.

And maybe discussion, including positive articles about the ad, more than the brand, can also serve to remind people that gender neutral clothing was pretty standard for babies until the 1940's - rather than promoting a brand. (Also makes sense on an economic level, when children wore their siblings' hand-me-downs, and nothing was wasted.)

What does @RitaTG think about the ad?

Always there are agendas in the real world ... these are disposed of only in the imagination ... thus rushes and pap rous ...

My friend" daughter's girlfriend's youth (sorry for that mouthful) was born female and is identifying as male. Family is supportive and they are just starting counselling-with a view to medical procedures. They are 18 done high school and looking for work. Not much success. Part of the issue may be that they have quite large breasts but trying to present as male. and so they are spending too much time in their room and feeling depressed. Breast reduction surgery should make a difference.
