Is a New Years bug preordained by planned activities?

You know according to the Thesaurus a plan is a metaphor of conspiracy ... can you imagine such processes?

@Pinga - maybe just a bit too much inflammation for you after being at the dentist? Better that than a virus!

When I worked in a hospital the infection control people insisted that hand sanitizer was the way to go unless your hands were visibly soiled. After using the washroom it was soap & water but otherwise hand sanitizer. Has this changed? I have been retired for 3 years and things often change.
 
I'm just fine. I had to have surgery to repair some of the damage done by bearing too many children... It went very well, and I already have proof of its success. I have serious lifting restrictions - nothing over 10 lbs for a full five weeks, and I'm to be completely off work, as well, for the same period. Can't even walk the hounds, but several friends and neighbours are stepping up, so they'll be fine, and that's what I fenced the back yard for. My daughter came to the hospital with me; in at 7 a.m., home by 1:30; she's been absolutely amazing.

You're right - hand sani is the general 'go to' thing (remember that 4 points of contact???) We must go through barrels of that stuff every day. But with enteroviruses apparently hand washing is the gold standard method - got an alert about it last week at work.
 
Glad to hear you're doing well Bette! And wonderful to hear how amazing your dtr has been ... it's reassuring to see that isn't it? At least I always feel that way ... had me doubts along the way about what my little humans would grow into, but they're doing me proud now :love:

Why did they suggest hand sanitizer over hand washing? I've always heard hand washing is better.
I myself prefer a combination due to convenience as well as dryness. Some seem to find sanitizers are drying, but generally I find them to be less of a problem than hand washing!

Yes, it's a lovely feeling when our children grow into adults we're proud of. Sometimes, when you're in the middle, it feels like nothing's getting through, and then suddenly it does. Possibly the most important lesson I learned was that it matters very little what we say and overwhelmingly what we do. Right now, my son is out in Victoria being an activist in the Intent City protest, having watched my involvement with environmental and pacifist and social housing movements over the years - marching, writing letters, etc., and my daughter is looking after me like I looked after my parents when they needed help in older age.
 
My mother says she is proud of me but sad because I'm going to hell with lighter thoughts!

She really believes I shouldn't know ....
 
Bette - different surgery (of course) but Seelerman's restrictions are pretty much like yours - no lifting over 10 lbs for about five weeks. Off work (he's retired) for a week. Limited activities.
He has been having a fair bit of pain this afternoon and had to take a perscription pain pill after dinner. Granddaughter was in and helped me to pursuade him that is what they are for - he hates taking medication. He seems to be more comfortable now. I hope that he has a good night - and we will see how the pain is in the morning. I think it is quite normal - even 'scopic surgery involves some cutting and internal work - it's bound to hurt a bit until it starts healing.
 
Thank you for your well-wishes folks. I'm happy to report that my headache is now 95% gone, and my tummy 100% well (it must be - I had pepperoni pizza for lunch, and tacos for supper with no problem). :)
 
Memories of having an 11lb 2oz son by C-section and being advised that I had a 10pound restriction for lifting for x weeks. Yeah, that didn't happen.

My delightful dog decided that it needed out at 6:10. I was the one who got up and let him out. Sleep isn't being found now so guessing it is an early start to my day

Here is coffee and bacon and eggs for anyone hungry this morning
