So yesterday I went to church early-and used my avalanche shovel to clear the front driveway (handle is too short to be comfortable) Then at 3pm I shovelled my walk.
Woke up this am to 6 more inches of snow. As I went out to shovel the mom across the street had her 3 out helping (grade 4 to Kindergarten). They helped me as well. Everytime the kids bickered their mom made them shovel more.
We did all the sidewalks and then as we were doing a front walk, we were asked to do the back lane to get a car out. The dad arrived too and the 6 of us made short work of it. Nice to work with friendly neighbours..

I do love that about snowstorms ... people dress up & get outside, neighbours helping each other ... laughter and rosy cheeks. We're expecting a storm here this evening - it's been getting colder & windier all day. They're forecasting snow & ice pellets, high winds, then freezing rain, then possibly regular rain tomorrow ... sounds like a slushy mess!

Well, it was considerably warmer here today. Yesterday was one of the coldest days we have had all winter . . . - 30C. Now that is not unusual for this neck of the woods, but we have had an unusually warmer winter so far this year.

I do not like freezing rain and slush here . . . cause it freezes and turns to sheets of ice - very dangerous for driving and walking.

And at my house, large doggy paws churn it into mud, which of course, get tracked throughout. It was bitter here this afternoon, but no precipitation yet.

mild here at -3 but about 30 cm of snow on the ground-or at least on my chair on the porch. Over 1 metre of base up the mountain for X-c skiing.

What about downhill? Should I just pack up Little M and send him out to stay with you for a bit? :D

Downhill is the same over a metre of natural snow. Sure send out you son. There's a bus that will take him up and bring him down. Apex is our local downhill spot.

Good evening folks. Sitting relaxing. Watching Jeopardy. Going to have a coffee soon.
Had a lovely chat with a friend today, probably too long, but, we were both enjoying our chat.
It is damp out there in S ontario & cold. I'd rather it be cold & crisp.

Here has been about +4. Maybe 2 at night and that feels cold to me. To me, it's a cold day when I have to wear gloves if I am outside for over 1/2 hr! Everybody's dressed for winter because we acclimatized this way, so I don't know how I would handle living in winter places! I have visited Edmonton in the winter and it was just "boot it straight from the house to the car and back" like a 2 minute walk in a deep freeze but not long enough to be too affected - and I was being driven around in relatives' cars. Whereas, here, I have to get around on foot a lot on my own and couldn't cope with being pretty well housebound all winter because of weather.

We've had dustings of snow that I didn't really see stick by the time I got out, and the road was frosty one morning, but that's about it.

I've been a bit of a slouch since the Xmas day festivities ... which is okay by me. Now I just have to remember to get up & get going tomorrow - back to work!! But then another long weekend! I find it's a challenge to keep track of what day it is ...

My neighbour who moved here from Edmonton said even though it was much colder there, the moisture in NS makes - 15 much colder than -25 there. But we haven't had it that cold yet. Got some 35 cm snow since Sunday but rain tomorrow.
I am looking forward to the end of the holidays....my best friend who loves to cook and socialize had us over for Christmas, today for a cheese, meat and chocolate fondue and on Friday for her tradition of New Years leve ( not sure how to spell this).
I need to get back to a healthier diet and shake off those extra pounds....

Cold andd crisp - thumbs up.
We had a couple of cold (double digits) here, along with a minor storm. Winter setting in.
Then we woke this morning to above freezing, and getting warmer. I wish that once it gets cold, it would stay cold. Much healthier and more comfortable. And safer. Ponds and rivers aren't freezing solid. We've already heard of incidents where dogs or people venturing out on ice and breaking through with almost fatal results. The same could be happening to deer and otheer wild life. (Looks like a snowcovered field, start across, suddenly realize that it's covering a swamp with a few deeep holes, and the ice gives way.)
So my preference for winter is - once it gets cold, stay cold - at least until mid-March.

So stay away from Isis or you could be in deep ... C'est la pool ... Teller's place?

Maybe test-La ... for it could be shockin ...

Yes, I want that mud in my backyard covered with real white stuff for the winter. The temperature is stubbornly hovering between about -3 and +3, which means that any precipitation we might get is both unpredictable, and, if white, heavy.

I think I'm going to see Star Wars this afternoon, followed by a Swiss Chalet dinner, and probably not a late night; if the weather isn't too awful, the Hippie's supposed to be coming into town to join me. I'm not really into this calendar-changing stuff.

Having a spaniel in the house, I also like snow covered back yards. We are placing carpet on the stairs and vinyl on the floor to allow for a combination of safety, easy replacement (more frequent), and easy cleaning. Muddy paw marks in spring and early winter are my life.

I am surprised by how close the USA-DEN game is today. I just turned it on so not sure what is up with USA. I do like Junior Hockey.

Not doing anything special for New Years tonight. Maybe some reflections on 2015

Taking a moment to reflect on last year. Despite the turmoil with kids I got 7 quilts finsihed and one top done (to get quilted next year). I'm impressed with myself as I didn't think it was that many. They range in size from baby to 74 inch square and some are complex and others quite simple.

That's a huge amount of quilting Tabitha - must be a sense of accomplishment in that.

I worked today and I'm so glad to be home now, and not venturing out anywhere tonight! Put my comfy pants on, will have a beautiful dinner cooked by my personal chef, watch a movie, or maybe even two! Drink some wine - sleep when I feel like it. Contentment. No forced socializing to celebrate New Year's Eve, no overeating, no sloppy drunks, no worries about driving ... perfect! I feel blessed.
