Home after a 10 day california vacation with my Mom. We did a 7 day cruise-perfect for both of us-she's 81 and retired to cabin at least once a day to put her feet up and read. Some highlights were whale watching in Santa Barbara-we saw 4 greys- riding a segway in San Diego for 3 hours through Balboa Park, riding the cable cars in San francisco and just hanging out together. (just to be clear Mom did not join me on the segway adventure).

Well, today has been another busy day.

Finished taxes for 2014 for all but one who isn't ready.
Answered some work emails.
Bought paint for ceiling and walls
Did my banking
Brought everything (drawers, bins) into the living room so can start to wash walls tomorrow (TSP anyone?)
Took 3 pictures to the framers and spent time figuring out framing with three wonderful women (husband's birthday present) -- that took way longer than I ever imagined it would.
Cleaned out most of my cupboard
Cleaned out most of my dresser
Got side tracked on my last errand, so it will have to fit into tomorrow's schedule -- side track involved "rescuing" a senior with a broken down scooter.

Pinga - my previous post about vacation was somewhat 'tongue in cheek'. I'm sure many people consider just being at home with family more restful and refreshing than dashing about trying to cram as much as possible into their vacation time. Meal planning preparation are enjoyable and creative activities. Putting things in order (sorting paperwork) is also creative. As is painting (a picture or a wall) - I'm still enjoying the soft green livingroom walls after having them painted last year). And what one person finds re-creative, or relaxing, or renewing will be different than what appeals to another person.

Sounds great Tabitha - and the fact that you were able to do this with your mother would make it extra special.

How wonderful that you got to spend time with your mom doing things that were mutually acceptable Tabitha.

I can enjoy hours of sitting at a lake or beside a stream, just soaking up the natural scene and characters. Even just being home alone is great providing it is my choice to do that. Getting some items sorted out is good as is planning room changes or a quilted item. Others I know seek activity and entertainment for their fun times. One adult child constantly plans for fun activities - her kids are never allowed to get bored enough to actually think of something to do.

It makes for challenges when family get together when I like mostly quiet, one person likes frantic activity and the rest fit somewhere in between.

LOL Tabitha - I was saying to myself - "wow - segways ... did mom ride too? that's amazing!!" but then got to your last comment :-)

Sounds like it was a great vacation. Special time to create memories with mom.

Tabitha, how was the Segway? We considered it, went with a different item, but, really think it looks interesting.
It sounds like it was a good mom vacation...love the idea of a cruise with her. Glad you were able to do it. I have fond memories of taking Mom down east and I know she enjoyed it. On one of those trips, she met our Seeler.

Seeler, yup, it helps that I get 6 weeks of vacation, so I can do both kinds of vacation
KayTheCurler, I totally get the bored bit. I intentionally ensured my kids summer vacation was front loaded with little to do in August but lazy days. The goal was to ensure they were bored & ready for school. My sister is more the activity person. I would be happy to relax on the balcony, enjoying a beverage and the company of others. She is a goer and doer. It is good. Sometimes we choose a doing thing that isn't going...such as games.

Frustrated that today's schecdule and Friday's was just messed up by the bank. Seems there was a communication failure between the person booking my appointment and the person whom it was being booked with. So, today's meeting is now tentatively moved to Friday (which is better than a month from now, which is my next available date).

I loved the segway. It's quite intuitive and 3 hours was long enough to get quite comfortable on it. We went over quite varied terrain-but some tours are on flat surfaces. I bet you could try it somewhere on your travels Pinga-for you my advice would be to do a tour firts and maybe a plain rental later.

I'm feeling a little crushed today, I woke up to a call from my clinic. There is a mistake on my file and it is going to affect how much of my medication I get at a time - significantly. On top of that they are also missing logs I have provided. My hematologist is going to be around once before my wisdom teeth removal, and the surgeon's office hasn't contacted my clinic yet. The receptionist (or whatever her title, she's the one who handles all hospital stuff) wasn't too, well, receptive when I called and said they need to be on this NOW. I have been very clear in the past that my doctor is busy and it takes time for things to be put into place. I was basically told they don't operate planning things months ahead of time - yet I am going to them because they deal with high risk patients.

Not the news I needed to deal with after putting a bunch of stuff into place yesterday.

Aw @ChemGal That's too bad. You are really quite unique with your illness and it seems the systems are having a hard time adapting. Do something that brings you pleasure today!

Thanks Tabitha. I got out to a guest lecture at a college today given by someone I knew. Our parents were friends, so our entire families used to get together and I think I was in high school the last time I saw her. After the lecture we had a chance to talk along with some profs who were about our age as well.
We had a great discussion about law and science and just socialized for a bit too. It made me feel a bit normal again, like I wasn't on medical leave.

Just heard the news of the co-pilot intentionally destroying the plane and all lives on it. I understand more will be found out, and more will be surmised, some correctly. I feel badly for the people on the plane, but, more badly for the families of them. The folks who died had about 8 min of terror out of their whole lives. The ones who remain will live those 8 mins over & over again. Tragic.

Not sure I agree Pinga. Those gone did just have 8 minutes of terror. Those left will have spaces in their hearts and lives forever (just not reliving those 8 minutes). I asked the assistant cleaning my teeth this morning to turn off the news as it wasn't helping me relax.

oi -- for the good of your soul, restrict your watching of the news to a minimum
it taint news -- its a butchering of what is really real

sorry for the coughers -- i am expert with everting-lung fu -- not fun when it hapens
a tendency of mine is to go through a coughing jag right after i wake up and once when i go to bed

Is the room for all in religion that divides us over whose up and whose down? Hellova situation to pass through while learning mental intercourse ... some physical contact may be needed to get the soma started ... omega 'd!

Soma bu late shine ... or son n ambulance as in racing sunlight ... the energetic source of Leviathan? Thoughts are monstrous to those that would rather not! Thus the dark ambiance ...

I guess it depends, Tabitha, on the individual. Living with a loss is hard. Living with a loss where you know the person died in abject terror, well, that would be rather rough. I feel for the families.

Yesterday was a play games day, fool around with the computer, read, cook. It was good. Not what I anticipated when I booked this vacation, but that is ok, needed to be flexible. Oooh, I also napped. love naps. Still coughing, though not quite as much as last week. Thinking this is what retirement would be like A bit of this, a bit of that, an appointment here, a task there.

Good morning folks. The sun is shining here and the air is a bit warmer after a cold snap the last couple of days, including some light flurries.

I'm enjoying this week of, could use another one, but....friday is Good Friday, then I have some time off in April, so, will be able to continue the home transformation tasks. Husband is out all day at a hockey tournament (end of year for the local league..he is a convenor for one group). Youngest son is away all weekend and oldest son is working ll day, so definitely going to be a quiet house for most of it. Think the couch and finishing a book i've been slogging through is in order.

Square dancing tonight. Several car-loads are going from our club here to St. Stephen for a special dance. Live music!
Seelerman and I were invited along. We've never danced to live music.
It's quite a way - I think about two hours each way - but we'll leave early, grab a bit when we get to St. Stephen (a town on the NB/Maine border), dance a couple of hours, and drive home in the night.
I'll try to grab a nap this afternoon.
