I don’t understand the purpose of school gardens when most of the weeding, watering and at least part of the harvesting has to be done by others because the kids are on holidays. Defeats the purpose I would give it - to learn how much work there is to growing food.Lots of big storms on the weather radar today - they seem to be sliding past my area - but look out BetteTheRed!
Last evening I went to the school garden to see what needed doing - LOTS! My absence in the past two weeks means exploding weeds. Have to get the school custodian back into the habit of weed whacking the 'pathways' between the veg beds when he's out doing that task on the property. What the kids planted seems to be doing well tho. The pollinator garden also needs some thinning, and some removal of a few thistles & burdockI have a couple of mtgs booked today, so I hope to get over there tomorrow or Friday to tidy it up.
Would make more sense if it were a summer club or even credit based course. Still may need parent involvement but would have the students more involved.I don’t understand the purpose of school gardens when most of the weeding, watering and at least part of the harvesting has to be done by others because the kids are on holidays. We plant some cool weather crops in late spring - lettuce, radishes etc - these mature before school finishes. The wild strawberries are ripening now. I will harvest the zucchini the kids planted & take it to our local food bank. I will plant some seeds (carrots, bush beans, more zucchini etc) in early August - those will be ready for harvest by late Sept & early October when the kids are back. The teacher planted tomatoes one year - never again! They take WAY too much care & watering!I don’t understand the purpose of school gardens when most of the weeding, watering and at least part of the harvesting has to be done by others because the kids are on holidays. Busts ... sweater out bi ... like the Heat of the Night ...Good morning! As we discuss weather, talk of gardens at schools, as we plan attractive 'stash busting' projects, and other topics of interest, let us come together in spirit round the coffee cart, where there is tea to help and coffee in time of need. (Bonus points and a free refill for anyone who knows what that last part is paraphrasing).

I ave lost so much strength- now 9 kg in my right vs 22 in my left. At least, I can write ok with my right hand now.
The rental units in my neighbourhood are getting sold one by one. The next six neighbours got their notice. One neighbour will be living with me for a week until her new temporary home is available. She is a sweetheart, but also has mental health issues and I hope that she can manage for that week…
