Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

We're going to try to stay here for another day if that works for the park in Saskatoon. The wind gusts are ridiculous and apparently worse in Lloydminster. Pulling a fifth wheel in that wind isn't fun so if we can avoid it we will.

Imagine winds creating caution ... and then there is the spiritual sense of that going on within the solid ... pious observations! Tis an alien wind ... ruah? Can such things churn up innate forces ...

Lots of big storms on the weather radar today - they seem to be sliding past my area - but look out BetteTheRed!

Last evening I went to the school garden to see what needed doing - LOTS! My absence in the past two weeks means exploding weeds. Have to get the school custodian back into the habit of weed whacking the 'pathways' between the veg beds when he's out doing that task on the property. What the kids planted seems to be doing well tho. The pollinator garden also needs some thinning, and some removal of a few thistles & burdock :) I have a couple of mtgs booked today, so I hope to get over there tomorrow or Friday to tidy it up.
I don’t understand the purpose of school gardens when most of the weeding, watering and at least part of the harvesting has to be done by others because the kids are on holidays. Defeats the purpose I would give it - to learn how much work there is to growing food.

Would make more sense if it were a summer club or even credit based course. Still may need parent involvement but would have the students more involved.

Good morning, all! Thursday has arrived. The coffee cart is up and running, the room is comfortable, the company is friendly and supportive. As we talk of weather and gardening and a plethora of other things, let us gather round the coffee cart.

Discussion of culture and carryover of scholarship continues ... yet goes right over those that didn't wish to know what was in the opposing vector ... thus mist! Always one with head down ... the rest? Thus stuck or stix ...

Good morning on a sunny and blissfully calm morning. The wind died down yesterday in the late afternoon. It was so nice and quiet last night. We will weigh anchor and "sail" east this morning.

Rained much of the night here on Hornby Island, quiting about 6 am went for a long walk along the rocky beach about 7:15. Took a lot of pictures. Cloudy but mild, but cool.

It's a sauna outside, or was when i drove to the office. It was getting cloudy last I walked by a window so maybe some showers or storms on the way.

We plant some cool weather crops in late spring - lettuce, radishes etc - these mature before school finishes. The wild strawberries are ripening now. I will harvest the zucchini the kids planted & take it to our local food bank. I will plant some seeds (carrots, bush beans, more zucchini etc) in early August - those will be ready for harvest by late Sept & early October when the kids are back. The teacher planted tomatoes one year - never again! They take WAY too much care & watering!

When we have skilled teachers (and volunteers), there is a huge amount that can be learned in outdoor garden spaces. Planning, research, teamwork, cooperation, patience, persistence, weather monitoring, estimating, identifying bugs & pollinators, knowing what's a weed or veg or perennial, or raspberry or strawberry, or rhubarb, how various foods grow - eg wow carrots are roots!! sharing of produce, use of produce in cooking/baking ... lots and lots of stuff! I have had the most amazing talks with kids while working side by side in the garden. Plus it keeps me out of trouble LOL!

Good morning! As we discuss weather, talk of gardens at schools, as we plan attractive 'stash busting' projects, and other topics of interest, let us come together in spirit round the coffee cart, where there is tea to help and coffee in time of need. (Bonus points and a free refill for anyone who knows what that last part is paraphrasing).

Busts ... sweater out bi ... like the Heat of the Night ...

Day off today, because I am working tomorrow. Saw ortho surgeon yesterday. My fingers now work ok, but still very little flexion in my wrist. He said, likely it will never be the same as before. I ave lost so much strength- now 9 kg in my right vs 22 in my left. At least, I can write ok with my right hand now.
The rental units in my neighbourhood are getting sold one by one. The next six neighbours got their notice. One neighbour will be living with me for a week until her new temporary home is available. She is a sweetheart, but also has mental health issues and I hope that she can manage for that week…

And there are those that declare definitively that the world is not going insane with fanatical desires ... just watch the ADs and see what big business is trying to sell (eternal growth in a mortal setting) and thus concept of something beyond mortal avarice ... the loss of earthly (mire) control? Should physical resources be reserved or greater thinking and knowledge? Intelligence goes like the light in dark activities ... occult activity? That's a large power ... and yet we know no difference ... rifts?

Yesterday was a tough day....involving husband's treatment path taking a curve (decisions to be made) because things aren't working according to plan. Also, middle son got laid off from his job. Also, a girl I taught in Grade 1 had a truly awful life, and was reported missing many times by the local news...this time, news reported her death at age 17. She was a real handful....but also one that had been given many offers and efforts of help over the years. The community did not turn its back on her; but perhaps we didn't know the right kind of help to give. She was one of my most difficult students ever, but I always celebrated her strong and charismatic spirit.

Outliving your students must be kind of like outliving your kids (we were friends with a couple who had that experience). And sorry to hear about your husband. Hope things can get back on track for him. Ditto your son. We are worrying a bit about Little M and his partner (both computer engineers) given recent downturns in the tech sector but he thinks their jobs are fairly secure for now.

Just had one of those wonderful experiences that just did not happen much pre-Internet. I am, as some know, a big fan of Dutch rock singer Floor Jansen and am active on her online fan community, Floorworld. Today she is performing twice, once solo and once with the band that she fronts, at a Dutch music festival. Some of the Floorworld gang from that area are there in person, others of us have been watching live streams. And, of course, we are all on the Floorworld forums commenting as we watch. The internet and social media have their downside, but something like this shows the upside.
