Ouch - hoping Mrs. M is doing okay .sounds like a tough injury .. are you a good caregiver @Mendalla ? Were you also biking with her?

Have a great time with your grandie @Pinga!

I've spent a sweaty few mornings at the school garden this week. Since the kids WILL be coming back, and outdoor ed spaces are treasured - I decided to get busy & spent a few days weeding the veggie patches. The custodian kindly put out the water barrels for me yesterday. Today my mate came with me to haul bags of manure & help to dig them in. The beds are SO dry - it was water, mix, water, mix, water, mix ... so many times to get the soil to finally accept the water. Then we added 5 bags of manure strategically. Then I planted some seeds I had researched for fast growth to maturity, cold hardiness, insect & disease resistance. So ... all done ... now we wait ... and probably water daily! Carrots, kale, lettuce, zucchini, bush beans. They all should mature in the 40-45 day range. So fingers crossed!! Radishes will go in a week or two - they only take 3-4 weeks to harvest time. I also will move some raspberries that are spreading into the perennial bed - but that can wait a bit. So it's good to back doing that. While I was working today I was visited by a little 3 1/2 year old and his Dad - I invited them into the garden & we had lots of good conversation about "dirt" - he likes dirt! And food ... so fun.

Shoulder is popped back in and her arm is in a sling. I was not with her. I actually went for a walk that night so didn't find out until I got home.

So the sad but somewhat funny part is that I slipped and fell while helping her get ready to go to emerg. Twisted or otherwise injured my foot. So I am limping and she's in a sling. Fun, wow.

Actually went shopping today for the first time since March (she usually does it these days but can't drive now). Bit of a weird experience navigating one way aisles. At least it was our usual grocery store so I knew where I was going, just had to watch the arrows.

Sounds like you 2 make a good pair.
Hopefully both injuries heal quickly.

Just wondering the purpose of a school garden if you do all the work- what is left for the kids? Just watch them grow? Cook and eat?

Good morning! As a way of taking a break from the gardening, we offer the coffee cart. Relax a few moments and savor the warm beverage of your choice.

Hoo needs caffeine with all these steroids ... artificial endorphins ... causing ali*en*doctrination ... endogeneity ... separation of stats and desires!

As ewe like it ... sheepish bounce? Thus always some on the Lamb --- Charles what's his name! Maybe routed in Heida Domains ... tote 'M off!

That's a fair question - lots of opportunities for learning. Research the type of seeds planted, what weeds are common, what insects or butterflies do they see; track & graph lots of info as the plants progress - rainfall, sun hours, temperatures of air & soil, how long from planting to sprouting to harvest; how frost affects the plants; experiment with covering some plants, leaving others to the open - how is the plant affected; committment to weeding & watering on a regular schedule & working together - maybe in partnership this year - to get these tasks done. Figuring out what to do with harvest? Lots of possibilities.

Tea is needed on this warm, muggy August day. 24 and a bit hours until I have a son again. Only until Labour Day but we could use another pair of hands around here so I am glad we planned this visit.

Had physio for my shoulder in Petawawa and waiting at CT while car is serviced. Need to work out my message for Sunday so we can record it tomorrow. Hope to spend a couple of hours this afternoon at Pine Point Beach as today is predicted to be the last warm day for over 2 weeks.

thanks for the coffee! Went to get my hair cut today; then watered the seeds at my school garden - another scorcher here. My neighbour who is a jeweller came over & weighed up all my old gold jewellery that is now never worn. Gold is at an all time high price at the moment - good time to liquidate. I will get another quote too, but she was great. So knowledgeable & looked at lots of other treasures for me too - like the zillions of pearls from mom & grandma - mostly not real it turns out. She showed me how to look closely at cameo brooches to see the differences in quality of materials and workmanship. So interesting. Then had a chat with my dad - who kind of broke my heart wishing aloud that I could visit him. It's hard being across the country.

It sucks that we can't easily visit these days. My father is finally having a session with his lawyer, his ex and her lawyer and a judge today. It is a video-conference session and will hopefully resolve something that should have been easily settled almost two years ago. I wish I could be with him through this.

My daughter has just come through a 'suicidal' breakdown ... I have been jumping from thread to thread and posting as a means to distract myself from being overcome with my inability to focus on everyday activities without falling into despair that she might not make it through alive. Praise be she has now returned from 'the edge'. This 'psychotic break' was very relative to 'covid stress' being that she is a manager of 36 persons that relied on her to guide them through the 'covid response' measures as they unfolded and changed daily. I have faith that she will recover ...

I have sent her this article and will share it here as well ...

We have three basic ways to counter the destructive consequences of stress:

1) Develop positive physical and mental responses via discipline, habit and practice (for example, regular exercise, gardening, etc.).

2) Turn off the mainstream media and social media (i.e. eliminate deranging, destructive distractions).

3) Stay focused on our plans. The simpler and more positive the plan, the more likely it is we can stay focused on it in stressful circumstances.

And now ... I am free to relax my mind as I proceed to mow the lawn.

Good morning world! Time to rise and shine! Well,at least rise, Maybe tea or coffee can help with the shine bit.

Must be such a relief for you @Ritafee . So sorry to hear your daughter had this horrible patch & I'm grateful for the care she received to journey through this phase. Burnout is a very real thing - however I have often found it to be a way of blaming individuals for not coping in a system that is designed to foster their failure. In other words - burnout is a systemic problem (much like racism) but gets blamed on individuals. Sad.
