what do you mean, a virtual colonoscopy? how different is it from a real colonscopy?
hmm, sorry, no idea which I had, but, it was fine. Worst part is the prep to empty them.
prep has improved a lot; the pico salax protocol is better, in my experience. Eating a light diet for a few days prior to the prep helps too. You'll probably get a bit dehydrated from the prep & may have a headache from that. I've had the 'real' version only. My brother had one of the CT ones - they found some other surprising things but his colon was okay! If you're worried, you can ask for some mild sedation prior to the procedure ... then it's just a nice nap![]()
I don't know about the differences, but just to give you one thing to consider. With a 'real' one, if they find a polyp they can remove it right away and send it for testing if necessary. It sounds like with the virtual, that wouldn't happen.Last week I went to see my gastroenterologist. She wants to give me a virtual colonoscopy. Her desire is to stick a pipe in me and then blow up my colon like a balloon. Has anyone here ever had one of these before? What was the experience like?

I don't know if the virtual one is better for certain conditions though.
After going through the prep and everything, would you want to have to go through the real one again so soon? IMO it's better off to just get the real one over and done with, rather than taking the risk of going 90% of the way only to have to do 100% soon. From what I understand, it's quite common to have polyps show up.The real one is more effective. My doctor only told me about the virtual one after I said to her that I was afraid of whatever pain might be involved with the real one. I also think the virtual one is a good way to start. If I survive one of those then next time I'll move on to the real one (or immediately if the virtual one finds something).
There's no discomfort jae ... many people do worry about that. Tell them you want sedation ... they'll start after you snooze off ... have a good nap ... wake up in another room & go home. Easy. Be not afraid![]()
lol, goodness no. last thing that I would want to observe.
