I'm glad to hear the hostage situation in Sydney is over. I haven't heard too much, I hope there are no deaths/serious injuries. It does look like some of those who were held have injuries.

I believe Seeler meant Fort Edmonton in Edmonton. It matches her description with the York Boat.
I went to Vancouver Christmas market- a replica German market @Justme It was just ok. Great carousel-some German booths-lots of regular Canadian booths-like any other craft fair/farmers market. Had some Gluvine and a baked pretzel. Lots of lining up to get in.
St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver does have a large light display It's just one wall (with scaffolding) but quite speculator.

So, as days go, today was pretty typical for the insane world of our workplace.
1. Heard about one of our orgs managers giving notice on Thursday, and today, a reorg was announced. Both positive/negative re reorg
2. One of my peers gave notice on Friday (who reported to the guy who gave notice)...and that has nothing but negative
3. Advised of a major requirement for a project, previously undisclosed, and needs to be completed by...Jan 5. So now the negotiation and shuffling begins.

life is interesting, to say the least.

Broke the news to Dad that I need to move to a purchased service for his care....so, getting that piece moving along.

Last week I went to see my gastroenterologist. She wants to give me a virtual colonoscopy. Her desire is to stick a pipe in me and then blow up my colon like a balloon. Has anyone here ever had one of these before? What was the experience like?

what do you mean, a virtual colonoscopy? how different is it from a real colonscopy?

In a real colonoscopy they put a tube into you on the end of which is a miniature camera. In a virtual colonoscopy they send gas into you - then take pictures using a CAT scan.

prep has improved a lot; the pico salax protocol is better, in my experience. Eating a light diet for a few days prior to the prep helps too. You'll probably get a bit dehydrated from the prep & may have a headache from that. I've had the 'real' version only. My brother had one of the CT ones - they found some other surprising things but his colon was okay! If you're worried, you can ask for some mild sedation prior to the procedure ... then it's just a nice nap :-)

Thanks Carolla. My doctor told me that there's no sedation prior to the virtual test though. I guess I could still ask her just to be sure. I am worried about the discomfort that may be involved. I'm rather sensitive to physical sensations.

I don't know about the differences, but just to give you one thing to consider. With a 'real' one, if they find a polyp they can remove it right away and send it for testing if necessary. It sounds like with the virtual, that wouldn't happen.

I don't know if the virtual one is better for certain conditions though.

The real one is more effective. My doctor only told me about the virtual one after I said to her that I was afraid of whatever pain might be involved with the real one. I also think the virtual one is a good way to start. If I survive one of those then next time I'll move on to the real one (or immediately if the virtual one finds something).

After going through the prep and everything, would you want to have to go through the real one again so soon? IMO it's better off to just get the real one over and done with, rather than taking the risk of going 90% of the way only to have to do 100% soon. From what I understand, it's quite common to have polyps show up.

That's just my opinion though :)

I am a little surprised that twilight sedation isn't an option. You could also ask about an anti-anxiety med.

There's no discomfort jae ... many people do worry about that. Tell them you want sedation ... they'll start after you snooze off ... have a good nap ... wake up in another room & go home. Easy. Be not afraid :-)

I thought they wanted patients to be semi-conscious in order that they might observe the procedure...?
