Tabitha - let me feed your cats, make you a hot drink, and tuck a colourful afghan around you. There - do you feel better? Just take it easy for a few days.
We got our flu shots earlier this week. Fortunately I never (so far) get a reaction. Not even a sore arm. And hopefully they will keep us well this fall and winter.
I'm feeling frustrated today. My books were shipped from the publisher earlier in the week - five boxes. According to the UPS tracking they were together until sometime Wednesday when they must have been put on separate trucks. Four large boxes arrived Friday morning in Houlton, Maine, where I have arranged to pick them up, The fifty, much smaller, box is still in transit - a different route with eight and ten hour lay-overs in some places. We won't be able to drive over and pick them all up in one trip until Monday. I know, three days aren't going to make a lot of difference - but I do want to get them out so people can start reading, and talking - and I can start arranging the next job - promotion.
There was a nice article in September 22 McLean's magazine about finding the Erebus. Only one point I disagree with and no evidence found to date to prove either - the article says that the officers and men wintered on King William Island. Anything I have read before this would indicate that they spent winters on their ships. The ships were ice-bound over 20 miles from shore (according to the only written evidence found to date). There was practically no food available in winter on the island, and no wood on the island for building shelter. Supplies from the ships would have had to be man-hauled by sled over the ice. Winters were severe. On board the ships they would have had food, shelter, and a bit of warmth. I don't doubt that they battened down on the ships and rarely, if ever, ventured to shore during the winter.
