Yes they manage fine. They did need help when mom broke her leg 2 years ago. Dad built a ramp from the front door and a caregiver came in to assit mom in bathing. Both have lost siblings so they are enjoying health and travelling when they can.

I think some of it comes down to how you decide you are going to carry on. My guy's parents are in their mid-80s. But about a decade ago, they decided they'd had it, moved to a condo, and slowly deteriorated from there. It's like they'd put their foot down, decided they'd stop, and then looked on with dismay as the world carried on...

Good morning, world.

Today is a fairly sunny day in S. Ont. Not snowing. I expect it is crisp out, but, haven't checked.
Had 4 more fillings done yesterday for a total of 8 in two weeks. Looking forward to a break.
Also had a haircut, so ready to head to the US.

Think after close to 3 weeks, I am really close to filing my paperwork for retirement, woohoo! I mean people know, but...the process doesn't actually start with contacts until I file the paperwork. It has been a struggle to get complete information out of the various departments in order to make a good decision on when my last date of employment. Made an extra 5 days of pay by getting the details due to how vacation is accrued. Devil is in the details, and I am a detail person in some areas.

My earworm these days is "I'm in the money, I'm in the money" (should be we're in the money, but hey)

Had a neighbour that assisted his grandfather a bit although the 107 year old still cut and chopped his firewood until about 105 ... when he quit life among the trees ... he went rapidly down hill.

Perhaps he thought he was tired as a woodsman and wished to get on, or out ...

A week or so ago, I had driven by a local United Church and saw a sign that their Board Game Café was every Friday from 8pm to 12:30am.
I had saw a friend post a facebook event last summer and didn't make it. Something came up, but at that time it was less frequent, I think.

So, last night, I went. I arrived early having not put the start time in my phone, but rather when I had to leave...and mixing them up. I happened to know the first person that I saw setting up. I realized that I was close to 30min hour, so I just settled in to rest quietly and watched people arrive. There was a slew of volunteers who immediately pitched in with table setup, chairs being put around, food table, drinks. Lots of hugs and great welcomes as volunteers arrived. Definitely a welcoming, inclusive community.

8pm arrived, and there were around 15 people there. More would wander in until about 9pm. In the end, around 25 people were present.
One of the members sat at a big round table by me, and started to open a game. He looked at me "can you sell stuff"? We started to chat and I moed to the table to hear about the brand new game he was opening up "Snake Oil". More people joined the table. We had 7 people playing it: D's son and girlfriend and friend, the organizer, and two more men. I laughed so hard. What fun. (A woman from another table came over and said "you have the best laugh" and gave me a hug. -- So welcoming). We played another game. I bought some snacks and an iced tea (spent all of $3). I walked around and watched a few games, then came back and watched another game with the orginal group that I was playing with. By 11pm, I was ready to go home, just tired, but people were mingling and swapping into new games. Yahtzi, Scrabble, various board games and strategy games being played.

So, I walked in on my own, but, they were so great. I love to play board and card games, so put it on my calendar and look forward to the next Friday that I am in town.

So wonderful to hear of birthdays and anniversaries that signify the long haul! My family and I are in the throes of saying good-bye to yet another family member. My uncle went off dialysis, has cancer, and the doctor said: days or weeks left. My saintly sister is staying with him at his home, but others of us go when we can. My husband and I are going later today so she can go home for a bit and say hi! to her husband. And a friend of mine is on the verge of becoming homeless. She will not admit that though. I have offered her a room in our house if she needs it. And I will look for a part-time job for her also to help her keep her independence. Not sure that it will come to this, but I am ready.

My mother turned 95 yesterday ... she is frail ... but scrappy as she's always been ... she believes in controlling the world with her emotions alone ...

Really she has no room for people of wisdom ... they don't know what she does ... or so it manifests ...

Yesterday I told my Senior Pastor that I would no longer be giving any homilies in church. That follows last year when I bowed out of preaching sermons.

The thins like film noire?

They are often laid down on the page ... as god eve in ... stuff commonly redacted ... or otherwise altercation and change ...

Do you know what opposes cation? Tis Ani*on ... the point in the beginning from which to much was maid ... had assah, or a delicate behind ...

One must be able to read into the parts of the whole dark myth ... things that appear to be incomplete ... not all there dew to mortal restrictions ...

When weak in spirit they must be stirred ... song and Dan's wile due wit! Thus the inherited or icon received in half ... witted jest Ur'?

Nancy, sorry for your friend. Hard to walk through those times with people. Thankful that you are there to offer support.

Sounds like fun! The Table Top Cafes and whatever other names they use around here are really popular!
Sounds like a different mix of games that top the commonly played ones though!

It was fun. I have a friend who ping'd me and is going to go as well the next Friday that I am in town and we can go. Fun.

Sounds like a good night out pinga - and good on you for going alone to check it out - many would not do so. Glad to hear your laughter was cheering for others too ... so healing to be in the presence of laughter.

Nancy - sorry to hear of continuing losses and challenges amongst your circle.

I was out at euchre last night - first time this year that ALL of us have been there - no subs! So we had lots of good laughs and catching up on stories, which was terrific. Today our washer conked out ... doesn't look fixable this time ... so I guess we'll be shopping for a new one.

Spoke to my brother yesterday too - and discovered he's in hospital, his hip having fractured earlier in the week. No surgery needed apparently, which is good. He expects to be in for at least another week; hoping to recover enough mobility to be able to get home again. Seems the slippery slope toward end of life is getting steeper for him quite rapidly now. I have trip planned out there in a month ... it's hard to be so far away.

I really like my front loading washer carolla. I had one in last house and put one in here.
Sorry to hear about your brother's leg. Glad you have a trip planned to see him.
