We resisted putting the furnace on. We have an infrared fireplace and a heater that took the chill off. Suddenly we couldn't get warm so the furnace came on.

But has anyone noticed that along with hugely increased rental costs (I could get twice what I get from my boarder, but I'm not greedy), prices at restaurants have soared? Even a relatively modest dinner (the Japanese noodle place) will cost us $50 for two. Gets crazy if you add some booze.
Food in general. We spent quite a bit on candy for Halloween, I don't just hand out one small item per kid. Donations so that the busy street can keep handing out are very low, I suspect due to just how expensive everything is.

When it gets colder, the furnace will come on for sure....in the meantime enjoying the low utility bills.

I have baseboard heaters

I tend not to use the huge one in one room
I use the one in the bathroom...much smaller. And the bathroom is a good place to dry things :3

The guy I am helping is much skinnier than I so less resistant to cold -- and he is still ok with sleeping onna floor with blankets and such

Love the socks :3

And hello goldie!!!

Is it anything like the old space heaters where the elements get red hot?

Your pic just jostled a.memory.loose of my dad's childhood home being heated by a space heater...i rememmber the grille and these rods would get red hot...

Good Monday morning! Rent, food and other prices still rising. Winter coming, furnaces and heaters being out to use, and flannel sheets being deployed. Winter must be coming. Oh well, this, too, (eventually) will pass.
The Coffee Cart, a nice, warm place, is up and running, welcoming all for conversations, support, and hot beverages. Come join the fun!

When should we push our selves to downsize to a hole in the ground? Rabbi De Ley! Or will the hole come for us???? Abyss ... it is out there ... rise to the Cos ... so many diverse words ... alien because of our unfamiliarity with word as spread across the ineffable ... thus mutes ...

Whee, a colonoscopy. Have ... fun? I hope the results are whatever is most positive for you.

Still recovering from my surgery and burned a third sick day just to get more time. Having trouble sleeping, partly due to non-surgical factors being exacerbated by the surgery (e.g. my occasionally sore right shoulder has been worse than usual, as has my back due to having sleep on it rather than on my preferred side). Otherwise, the overall direction is positive.

We fired up the furnace a while ago but use a programmable thermostat to manage use and gas consumption (we're on natural gas). For a while, we just ran it in the evening. Now we have our regular schedule on, which warms the house up in the morning, then turns it down. Since only Mrs. M is usually home daytimes, she can always use our electric space heater to just heat the room she is in rather than having the furnace going.

Yuck - a colonoscopy prep! It is so sad that medical science hasn't come up with a better method of prep for these things. There is one coming up in my future too.
Yeah, I have not done one in quite a while but remember the, um, fun  . Prep for my surgery was actually quite simple by comparison. Just fast after midnight and nothing, not even water, by mouth except at the direction of a physician (I had to take one of my regular drugs) after entering the hospital.

Hope the pain eases up soon!

Lots and lots of snow here today. I'm also prepping for a colonoscopy...so all of you can imagine what kind of day I'm having!
Will you be watching the movie?

And I liked the taste of the prep fluid
2L of nummy :3

Hope it goes smoothly

Good morning! Snow and colonoscopies and Halloween! What a time to be alive!
The Coffee Cart is ready, coffee is fresh, tea water hot. Come on in and join the conversation, and enjoy the trick-or-treaters tonight, if they come to your door.

Are colons like long tubes where things come to pass? Maybe a metaphor for Ouranos! Looked at one way ... just another hole in the system ... some folk just fall onto it and SET there! Good position for a long read ... I see Buddha ... squinting ...

We got an advertising flyer with a Christmas theme in the mail yesterday. Party dresses, high end gift ideas and so on. You would think they could wait until after Halloween at least.
