Sure are here. We just finished lunch so afternoon tea is still a ways off. Sounds yummy.

Thanks @KayTheCurler just in time to go with my morning coffee.

I'm knitting a sock and enjoying this cuppa. I sure hope I get this sock done today. It's so close. I'm itching to get started on some fabulous yarn I bought in Ontario.

Hubby of the leave-your-glasses everywhere is celebrating his birthday today...71 years old. He has 8 siblings and some childhood friends that are calling him today...Phone is in constant use! It's kind of nice, actually. And all three of our kids have checked in. Tonight, I have ordered chinese food and a store-bought cake (he likes it better than my home made which I make for everyone else's birthday) and expensive ice cream. Pre-covid, we used to go to a restaurant and invite all my closest family plus my cousins and their kids...It became an annual thing, and was great because it was the only time we got to see the cousins. By February, it was just long enough after Christmas for everyone to want a party. Those were good times that I hope we will get to enjoy again some day. His immediate family all live out of town, so they celebrate via phone calls.

Well I've extended my sock knitting. I was almost done only to notice one sock had pattern on the top of the foot and the other was plain. Alas. And I know the recipient prefers smooth socks for his feet. Sheesh.

My father was born 93 years ago today. This is his first birthday without him. :(

Sigh there's a retirement party coming up, in a restaurant. Chemguy asked my permission but clearly very much wanted to be there plus felt like he should be there. This person helped him a lot when he first started plus has been a big cheerleader for my position at work. I told him he can go, masked at all times. May be getting a respirator even, we'll see if we can get something that fits well enough and is comfortable.

I wish they came up with better options that don't place people in awkward situations. I still won't have my booster at that point unless the criteria changes soon.

We had -20 this morning. I had taken the day off. Got a call at 6.50 that d-i-laws car doesn’t start and neither does son’s, if I can give her a ride ( they are both diesels, that’s probably why). She is close contact but had negative rapid tests since Sunday and is staying away as much as one can with using the same bathroom…
Drove into Dartmouth to IKEA and Costco, I had a long list with things for six different households. Another storm is forecasted for Friday into Saturday, so everybody was there shopping as if we will never again be able to purchase anything. Then had to deliver all the stuff to the other households.

Oh, and as worrying mom, I bought an Oximeter for way too much money to have son monitor his O2. When he tried to get the car going this morning he had to throw up- is very tired. I feel better if he has a measure to know when to call 9-1-1. Bought him a pack of boost, too ( boost, not booze).

Aside from the environmental issues, there are very good reasons why diesels are not really a good choice for cars in Canada. A gasoline ICE is much more reliable than diesel in the cold. Of course, EV performance goes down in the cold, too, but that affects range rather than starting as I understand it.

I ducked my boss' 25th anniversary with the company last week. They were serving lunch, meaning having to be unmasked for part of it. Couldn't risk exposure that close to my eye surgery. Hated doing it but he knows why.

In the end, it must have shifted Eastward. We didn't get it too bad here so far, though we'll see what things look like in the morning.

Yeah, I'm struggling a bit with this one. It's dinner. Chemguy already missed out on a management dinner which I know he felt like he really should go to otherwise he wouldn't have asked me.

This time there are other factors, like location differences (the management stuff was here, so everyone was meeting during the day as well), plus the person who is retiring won't be able to stay in Canada. The managemtn career factor also comes up again considering who will be attending. I wish they could just be more inclusive with a virtual option. When Chemguy said he would be willing to wear a mask the entire time I knew he felt it was just really important to be there.

Good morning! As we deal with snowfall, family members who are not feeling their best, missed dinner parties, etc etc, let us pause in our sojourning, to gather round the coffee cart for community and conversation.

Having an oximeter is a good idea. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought mine - I think it was about $20 - less than I feared. Most medical equipment seems to be very overpriced.

Thank you for your service to others. If everyone with the ability to get around and do stuff helped others this world would be a better place.

I've just made an effort to shift the heaviest snow off the front porch. Hard work.
My province got really dumped on recently. About half the roads were closed and many others were in the 'Not Recommended' category! We were fortunate as a son came over with his snowblower and did an excellent job. It didn't actually take long as he had pulled the snow off the roof a few days earlier and cleared that away. The wind prevented a big buildup in our yard - others, of course, got extra.

Just found out my accountant is retiring before this tax season. Will miss his good service and miss having a chat every year. Very nice guy.

I expect my GP will be next. He is part of a big group practice which plans to relocate soon. Unfortunately they are moving to a much less convenient location.

Our doc retired a year ago. Fortunately, one of the docs at a local family health team was accepting patients so we got in with him. Still getting used to his rather different style of practice. Our old guy was in his sixties and had trained in the seventies. Tended to be very quick to refer to specialists. This guy is a relatively recent grad (finished his residency in family medicine less than a decade ago) and tends to keep control of stuff longer before referring you.

Locally docs got some pressure from the higher ups to keep people away from specialist appointments if at all possible. The system is sorely overwhelmed still, with long waits for advanced tests and appointments with specialists.
