Scary. Sister seems to have recovered easily (except for her new shoulder nerve problem). She was double vaxxed plus boostered for more than 2 weeks. It was about 4-5 days of headache, fever/night sweats and GI issues.

I was glad enough that I hadn't seen her since Christmas. Between her shifts and mine, and the fair distance between our home bases, we talk/text often, see each other less.

One of my team in his twenties, fully vaxxed but not (I think) boosted, had GI issues so bad his first day he went to ER. Was off sick for 3 days and still symptomatic but able to remote work for a couple more.

Really worries me that everything opening up tomorrow In Ontario will require evidence of two shots only. Personally I will not be going to any of these places just yet.

Andrew Morris on the science table keeps making the point that although breakthrough infections tend not to kill any of us, it is really not accurate to call them "mild". Hope your colleague is okay!

Yeah, even emergency room trips still get counted as mild illness in the official counts as long as someone isn't admitted after going there. SMH
I think we need to break down the data better, but hard to say how many people are really sick at home (and may even be admitted if they went to the hospital, but they didn't).

He was good as of Friday. Will still be off tomorrow I think due to isolation requirements, but was basically down to just mild cold symptoms. We've had three of the team get Omicron and there's six of us counting me. This is the only one who took significant sick time. The others worked from home due to isolation requirements but did not burn any sick days.

Omicron is everywhere

Omicron is everywhere
There is official info and unofficial.
Unofficially based on the lack of requests in particular facebook groups of people 'desperately needing a rapid test' I suspect we're past the peak. Schools did hand some out which is likely helping too. Plus other posts about people being sick are diminishing too.
Official data does support that cases are declining too. Hospital data lags though, so it will likely continue to go up for a while.

Everything I saw suggested ON is at least 1 week ahead of AB for where they are in the 5th wave. Restrictions have been very different though.

Seems to me that our provincially driven system has created a fair bit of the confusion as this virus moved around. So many health Officers giving suggestions and contradicting the person with that job in the next province!

I hear people wanting access to quick tests but in SK we can get them easily (and free).

Yeah, some people in AB are getting them from SK. I don't put Kenney at blame for all of that. I think earlier on Hinshaw was way too hesitant to use them. Some of that was because our PCR testing ramped up really fast here. I think she was too short sighted and the request for more to the federal government went in when they were in high demand.

Good morning! As we remember neighbours in need, shovelers of snow, family, friends and colleagues who have been infected, and as Ontario 'opens up', let us gather in spirit round the coffee cart. As we go forth into a brave new world, let us not go foolishly or rashly, but reverently, discreetly, and in the fear of God. Coffee and tea are ready, other hot drinks as well. Come and get it.

All this hints that autonomous powers should get beyond themselves ... as that note on CBC internet news this morning about academic thorniness about freedom without experience of responsibility ... they have just followed the book on protocol ... for no reason!

Is that irrational exuberance? Such character can burn ...

My sister & i have decided to have a wedding shower for my future daughter-in-law. (Hey, it is about fun and joy and getting together).
My niece is so creative, and fun, and has had lots of ideas circulating, amazon orders placed, flights booked, and just something joyful to look forward to

@Mrs.Anteater , I hope that your son is doing ok. Scary to worry about him., I am sure.
Today, day 2, his headache is better and he has added a sore throat to it. He is already sick of watching Netflix
( maybe that should be added to the symptoms).
The coworker from whom he got this who came back after two days off with what he had thought ( or said) was a hangover, was made to take a test and then sent home. Again, it is understandable, they do get two paid sick days per year.
