Well, that actually confuses me.

In Ontario, you can't renew your driver's license, or plates, with outstanding municipal fines. Tickets might not "work" short term here, but they sure do, long term, if you'd like to keep your vehicle legal.

I think that only includes parking and traffic tickets, which are tied to your plates. Something like a fine for not maintaining your property wouldn't show up because it isn't tied to the car. COVID tickets would fall under that.

Here we go. A judge is going to rule on whether Aylmer can padlock the Church of God to keep them from holding services. Church members are gathering which could open the door for a confrontation. In the end, even if the town succeeds, the twits will probably just hold outdoor services in the parking lot so there is no reason for this action to be the end of it all. And they are now parties to a constitutional challenge of the pandemic law, though the Ontario Attorney General got that hearing put off until September.

They do, you know.

We had a thoughtful discussion at the Board last night about our proposed perennial sale. While E and I had made careful plans for distancing, non-contact plant delivery and pick up, a parking 'cop' to limit # of vehicles and where they parked, discouraging cash sales, etc., we decided that there was too much of a risk that the province would remain in total lockdown, and a lot of effort and planning might be wasted, and we might end up on the wrong side of publicity. So, no plant sale, again.

But the media aren't interested in the hundreds of congregations quietly doing their bit. They focus on the one bad apple.

Hearing adjourned to tomorrow, but a local reporter summarized the Crown's submission:

Lock the church
$50K fine to the church itself
$10K fine each to the pastors
$100K in court costs

They are looking to come down hard but, to be honest, this has been going on almost the entire lockdown period. Why has it taken this long? If they had kicked these guys a&&es earlier, maybe other churches might have fallen into line.

Xan we just throw them all on an island? They can do whatever they want there, as long as they stay there and don't use up healthcare resources.

I had a busy day so I didn't catch the streamed update, just the written summary.
They are requiring notes now for those with medical mask exemptions. Sucks that selfish people make challenges for others that much more daunting.
I'm glad for the change only because of the number of really selfish people I wish people would not take advantage of the rare circumstances some have.

And the decision on Aylmer Church of God came down. The church is to be padlocked by the sheriff until the provincial orders raise the limit for church services to 30% capacity (currently a flat 10 persons, I think). Fines were laid against the church, pastor, and assistant pastor but were lower than the Crown requested for the church and assistant.

I have mixed opinions on the mandate for a note. A part of me has beleived they should have been required from the beginning (knowing that there would be ways people woud game the system -- just like they did in prohibition to get liquor as a medical necessity or with medical canabis). At the same time I know that the medical system is relatively stretched as it is, do they reallly need a bunch of people coming to try to get medical exemptions? Our family Dr. told Patty that she had already been seeing lots of people trying to get her to give them such a note as it was.

I agree, it would have been good if it happened in the summer when doctors were less stretched. I did think the specificity would help. I fall under the excemptions on a regular basis, infrequent basis, and possible situation of an HAE attack that doesn't require a letter. It was good to see that outlined.

Dos Equis Reaction GIF by Dos Equis Gifs to the World

Sorry, no other reaction is possible. 180-300 people potentially exposed by events around a funeral (visitation, funeral, burial). "Rotating groups of 10" to get around the 10 person restriction would be called "rules lawyering" in my gaming days. And it sounds like there may have been private gatherings on the side that broke the rules in any case. Health unit is investigating. The association that regulates cemeteries has ordering the one involved to start having better traffic control. 50 vehicles crowded into the lot and families coming to visit graves were getting shut out. Again, outdoor gatherings (e.g. burial services) are currently also restricted in size in Ontario so possibly another violation. And just as MLHU has been looking better again.

Obviously, all these people have some level of entitlement that I find frustrating, and it makes me angry.

Ouch. My son's had his vaccine. Haven't asked my daughter. She trends to the yoga/tea granny/natural sorta thing, but she's also dead eager for life to return to "normal" that I think she'll sway towards a vaccine.
