The British variant emerging after they started a somewhat successful distribution of the new vaccines. South Africa? Brazil? I don't know, just wondering out loud.

I know it took years to develop MRSA and VRE from our overuse of antibiotics and it's probably a different scenario, but these virus' that we now have seem to be outsmarting our defenses.

I think the provinces need to do a big pivot with vaccines. They are still in the oldest first mentality. But the LTC folks are done. The retired folks can stay at home. It’s the younger ones. Who are at work

they should pivot to all companies with say more than five to ten staff. That eliminates little stores with owner and a few staff
they should do all essential workers. Set up a pharmacy clinic at each Walmart and grocery store And hardware. Do all the staff. Including all the staff on days off..... all factories

all people who take public transit. Apartment dwellers.......

these are the people causing the spread and they are now the ones who are ill

With limited vaccine though why not do those most at risk of getting really sick? That catches those working in public too. Right now it's also those working in hospitals with outbreaks.
 
I think now that LTC homes are done the next biggest risk people are this out at work. Us seniors and retired people are safe than those. And now, with the new variants they seem to affect 20-50’s more

basically we just need more vaccines. We get a million a week and USA gives 3-5 million doses a day.

People with health conditions do work, live with others who work, etc.

But the USA is over 350 million.....we are around 38 million.....and they produce their own vaccines.
 
CNN has been broadcasting (over various time slots) a special they recently did - Pandemic Docs - interviewing many high profile docs in the US system - I found it interesting.

The thing is - while most construction sites begin as 'outdoor' work - they move along quickly & become indoor work - much of it necessarily at close range. And in those stages, the ventilation systems in the buildings are not operational, and sometimes in large buildings (like hospitals) windows do not open. My son is working on a hospital building at the moment - ranges from 300 - 400 people on site daily, not including those making deliveries, inspectors etc. Washroom facilities are minimal, and most have no running water for hand washing. Many workers must use the stairwells - also not ventilated, and while they are designated for up/down traffic, not all are compliant. The option is using the lifts - which must be done if heavy equipment/supplies are being transported and those are often very slow now due to capacity reductions. Break/lunch areas are usually small - breaks are now widely staggered throughout the day. And let's not forget the common 'macho' atmosphere of many in the trades. Because this is such a large site they do now have mandatory masking & mandatory on-site rapid testing 2x/week - anyone declining testing is banned from the worksite. It's complicated.

That "macho" atmosphere usually includes spitting and relieving oneself just about anywhere too.

Possibly - but that would be a different thread! I like to think my son has better sense than that, and having been raised by a feminist mom he is much less on the toxic masculinity side of life!
 
Peel Health has shut the schools in its jurisdiction with a section 22 order. No school until at least the end of Ontario's break week (which is next week). Section 22 orders actually enable health units to do a lot of what the province has done (and is now in some cases not doing) but they seem reluctant to use them. A couple health units used them to force masking in the early days, but ours pushed city council to pass a mask by-law instead (eventually, the province made it all moot with a provincial order). So when I hear a health office complaining about the province not going far enough, my first question is why wait for Ford to come to his senses.
 
That is a good observation Carolla. I suspect that construction sites are very tricky to maneuver when there are so many workers. A good reason to take mobile clinics there as well as factories and such

variants are raging. Vaccines are slowly coming along. So many small businesses are suffering or have gone under, taking a lifetime of savings with them. But at least vaccines are arriving, however slowly

so I get that governments are trying to keep a balance. I know that all of them are. And I get that advice is conflicting and partly that is because of your perspective. If you are working ICU or staffing ICU in Toronto , you want harsher methods. If you are a small hair salon owner here is grey Bruce, you just want to open for your one client at a time

It would be nice if there was at least consistency between rules. Dynalife - lots there who are vulnerable. They only need to space out 1 meter and even that wasn't happening when I went.
The place my mom goes to get her haircut, there was a complaint that homemade masks were being used, they got a call and switched to disposable. Along with all the guidelines they were following.
Hospitals, vaccine clinics, make people take off their mask to change to a new one, inside. So people unmasked in the same area in succession. Why not just hand them out outside?
 
Consistency has been sorely lacking. Changing a mask inside makes no sense at all. Businesses have spent so much money trying to cooperate. And then rules change again. And then even the money spent doesn’t matter because they get shut down anyway

some things though are so obvious I wonder why we didn’t have them before. Like plexiglass at cashiers in grocery stores. like Tap limits increased in credit cards. Like wearing masks during flu season. Like limiting customers in stores

LRT here has put antimicrobial properties in the seats. Do I think it will help much with COVID? No. Do I think it's a good idea, yes! I've ridden the LRT wearing shorts a skirt and tried to limit skin contact as much as possible.
There's salt push plates too, again something that would have been nice to have had a long time ago.

I should expand, 3 worksites, different areas of the province. 3 sequenced cases, but 26 positives so likely all are the variant. The worker was out of the province and brought it in, so coming from BC is a good possibility, it seems to be circulating there more than here.

They didn't. Not a bank changed their tap limits. In my experience, almost without exception, the tap limit on the big bank's debit cards remain at $100, and the tap limit for credit (either Visa or MC) is $200. Not that it matters much anyway. If a customer tells me straight up that they've forgotten their pin, and I recognize them as being a fairly regular customer, I am not averse to entering 99.99 "debit" a couple of times until the total is paid...

Did stores ever implement the limits? I was under the impression tap limits were raise too, not that I'm out spending to really notice.
