So the "Queens Park" sources are saying Ontario is looking at a 4 week lockdown. Basically the entire province on Grey level with some modifications.

It probably won't be the lockdown that is needed and the doctors and nurses working with Covid patients would prefer.
I think Ford is risking losing ground with these continuous lockdowns if he doesn't do a really good lockdown this time.....like the MOTHER OF ALL LOCKDOWNS to end lockdowns.

Variants could change that but early restrictions are actually more effective rather than a later lockdown or at least that's what being said here at the updates and I believe it, we had seen it in action vs.how late things were done in the fall when more and more restrictions had to go in because cases kept climbing. Once there's high community spread it's going to show up in places that need to have people running things.

A neighbour who is a retired doctor has been asked to go work at a big hospital in the city. He is there for training in Covid and the required precautions. The regular staff are becoming over tired.

We've had early lockdowns, the problem is there is not really too much difference between orange, red and gray levels.....little things like no haircuts, no indoor dining, no gatherings over a certain number, no church....well that's nice. Doesn't address cross contamination between cities, workplaces (eg factories, airports, real estate, big box stores, etc.....)
When I say the Mother of all lockdowns, I mean everything closes except hospitals, firehalls, etc.....a more precise meaning of essential services. What we should end up with around Ontario is a profound lowering of traffic.
Will it happen.....nope....gov't doesn't want to piss off business owners that support their party or the economy and people can point to "light and fluffy shutdowns" that don't work as well.

The R value here was under 1 ie. cases going down, hospitalizations going down in Jan & Feb. Then in dining opened up, gyms opened up, etc. and now we're seeing numbers increasing.

Those small differences do make a difference, but waiting until there's a great deal of spread already is too late for the little things to make a big impact.

Yes we need some bigger things now IMO.

I don't disagree, not sure about a full lockdown, but yes shut down indoor things that don't have a strong health impact. I think there still needs to be some balance between short-term and long-term health implications.

It's ridiculous that the Ontario premier says he is doing EVERYTHING to combat COVID - no increases to staffing at LTC, absolutely NO action in providing sick day pay when that is clearly recognized as one of the huge factors, no vaccinations yet for workers in warehouses & industries & communities where spread is overwhelming ... seriously. "Lockdown" in Ontario's hot spots has been going on from the end of November til now - and look where we are. No real change in these areas as rates skyrocket.

Agree wholeheartedly.....I wonder if it is partly due to the real estate market? Shut down too much and the whole economy tanks when people stop buying houses. Our whole economy right now is precariously reliant on this one sector.

Ugh and to show some of the through process here:

Most places in Canada are adding in restrictions right now, cases here are going up, variants are going up, etc etc.
And the headline is to cover those who are disappointed things aren't opening up even more than they are currently. Why should that even be considered as a possibility right now? :X3:

And to answer that question, because of this:

There are 8,653 active cases with 292 in hospital and 59 in ICU.

Three hundred hospitalized patients was a key metric in the province's reopening plan which required a lower number "and falling" to lift restrictions.

The tunnel vision by some people here

Tunnels of great emotions can blind us to greater thoughts ...

Of course knowledge of such things is biblically evil as it is outside the realm of that powerful expression ...

London hit triple digit new cases for the first time since January 15. 122 today. There is now 649 active cases in our health unit.

Sobering statistic of the day: Of the 122 new cases today, 89 are under 30. So much for the kids being invincible. 42% of current active cases are in that group.

Seven day rolling average is up to 65, 3.2% positivity rate.

If anyone in Middlesex-London still thinks we are not in a third wave, there must be willful blindness involved.

I am almost wishing Chris Mackie would go "eff Queen's Park" and use section 22 orders to fill the gaps in the province's half-arsed shutdown. Of course, the resulting explosion of outrage from the business community would likely make it the last thing Mackie does as health officer.

Can you imagine intelligent humans being blinded by something unknown to them ... a great mystery?

Should they have known?

None of those London stats look good at all

without rapid vaccination, as done in USA and Britain we are losing this battle. Staying home and wearing a mask is not cutting it. So I find it funny that wearing masks and avoiding people seem to be the only advice

how about,

it’s ok for a walk outside, with your family, wearing a mask as long as you don’t stop and talk to anyone
you may pick up groceries at a grocery store, curb pick up is the preferred method. You may only go once a week
you may go into a drug store only for vaccination or prescription pick up
no one may enter your house other than family except certified and required repair men
outdoor construction may continue as long as all workers wear masks
stores may only offer curb side pick up
all grocery store and drug store workers will be vaccinated starting saturday

i Am sure there are other good rules we could all be following

We follow most of those anyhow. Except wearing a mask on walks. My neighborhood is pretty quiet so I rarely meet people on walks anyhow. Maybe when we go down to the Thames parkway, it wouldn't be a bad idea, though. That can get busy even these days.

Those rules leave out way too many essential things. And repair men? Seriously? I'll be out protesting if we start allowing workers based on gender.

Sorry for the repair men wording. Lately all our repairs have been done by men. Cant think of a time our furnace or dishwasher has been repaired by a women actually

I think the issue of essential things is what gets us in trouble. Food, prescriptions, gas, are all essential. As in needed to live

what other things would you include? I figured repair people would cover hardware store items but I can also see hardware stores open for curb side pick up. Not sure I personally have anything else essential that I buy. Desired yes, but essential? Though I know that Ontario considers beer and liquor essential and I guess I could agree with that, particularly related to addictions
