How many hospitalized? Should we just be worried about deaths?, although 200,000 in 6 months is high for a virus that we are just starting to find more about.
Absolutely need to count the hospitalizations - death count does tell the full story - and yet numbers are SO high for deaths, one can only imagine what the hospitalization numbers might be.

Covid also causes "Covid Long Haulers", those who have survived and people need to also know this is another reason to take this virus seriously. It's not the flu.

As the authors pointed out, though, patients with community-acquired pneumonia can also have persistent symptoms, so the findings might not be exclusive to COVID-19.

Interesting comments at the bottom of the "long haulers" stump experts ...

Secondary Gain

John Kaplan, MD | Dr. John's Nutrition Health

How are you controlling for or factoring for people who may get a secondary gain in reporting persistent symptoms, with or without serologic or PCR-confirmed Covid- 19? Our dependent culture often gives status and/or or compensation to those reporting persistent symptoms. The cultural dislocation, financial stresses, and persistent political warfare over the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic must certainly provoke opportunistic complaints in a subset of patients with persistent somatic symptoms.

Post-Covid Asthenia

H Silverstein, MD (FACC) | Private Internal Medicine Practice

For almost all medical conditions there are identifiable risk factors. These may have to do with environmental factors, dietary exposures and lifestyle, mental status (resilience, depression, anxiety), strength of the viral attack and response, and genetic predispositions. There may be other predisposing entities. These need to be identified to define why the post Covid asthenia occurs and persists.

Take out of it what you want Rita as will I and mine is different from your conclusion.

So what???? Put in a more specific search if you're looking for something else, geez.

I was more surprised to hear the part about how AI is used to influence other opinions and behaviours - for example by popping up certain info related to your prior choices & 'interests' when you use a search engine. It might be an interesting experiment here for some of us who we know have disparate views on some subjects to enter the same word or phrase into google search & then post the results here - see how similar or different our results are. Not sure what we might search ...

My conclusion is that coronavirus obviously affects different people in different ways ... same old same old ... nothing novel about that.

Rita you're focused on disproving the severity of COVID, Carolla doesn't seem to be saying that.
I am not focussed on that in this thread ... I was focussed on what the algorithms want you to focus on ... and now a days they seem to want you to focus on 'cases' of the coronavirus sort.

Absolutely need to count the hospitalizations - death count does tell the full story - and yet numbers are SO high for deaths, one can only imagine what the hospitalization numbers might be.
So I typed in 33 hospitalizations ...

Get my drift? Hospitalizations also brings up coronavirus not anything else.

The numbers are going up one at a time in my community...only in the 30's for the whole time. Yet, still a concern because...where did those 30+ come from? My husband and I are both suffering from a slowed down health care system if we are not dealing with a) the virus or b) drug overdoses. My husband has had a hernia since January, and it has become debilitating and painful. I have had hip and knee pain that I have been dealing with since April. Both of us have referrals in to other doctors, but will take some time. Both of us can barely walk. He uses crutches; I use a cane. When my husband went to emerg for extreme pain, (he actually had been in tears with the pain), the doctor said: "Why are you here? I can't help you." I used to enjoy going for walks....an enjoyment that is now a distant memory. Walking is pure torture. I know all of this sounds quite whiney...Well, it is. I needed to whine. Whew. Now I feel better, and can laugh again about how old my husband and I have suddenly become.

Numbers are coming back down in London after a big Fall surge. We were at 80 active with double digit new cases for a few days. Now yesterday was only three new cases and active has dropped to 72. Still well above summer levels (we were in single digit active cases for a long time) but starting to improve.
