How was church today?

Yep, their centennial is looming. And my grandfather was ordained not long after, forget the exact year.

My family has been a part of the UCCanada for generations - going back to the time of its beginning. I feel my grandparents on my mother's side were the first involved. They had been Presbyterians before that. My mom is still a regular adherent in the summer, and my Suzannah and her family are in the denomination.

Missed church today. First time in a long while. Felt odd and wrong.Training session for a part time job as a cashier in a grocery store. Made it downtown in time to participate fully in our Pride Parade float. Tons of fun! Best float in the parade, to my mind. We had a parishioners' hay wagon to work with; we got very rainbow-y, but added a "stained glass" effect to the top rung of the float, which was really Tall, so quite effective. We even ran into a little protest, which was sort of cute. We offered them suckers, and cards, and just "loved them back".

Today's sermon was by Rev. Mark Tremblay. Was looking at the second creation story and how the man and woman were hiding from God. Idea was how do we hide from God with various aspects of our lives. And how, like the characters in the story, do we point fingers and say someone else is responsible rather than being accountable for our life choices. Wonderful music by the choir and violinist and organist this day as well. Not a typical after church Sunday for me though, a fairly steady rain so did some chores around the house and gave my sister a ride in the car to an event she was attending. Then got lucky as the rain stopped and the sun came out so did get in a short 11 km ride to the university and then down to the park.

Was too tired to go online and post yesterday after a 92 km bike ride with a lot of climbing. Was a double baptism at church yesterday. One of the babies had on a baptismal gown that his mom and before that his granddad had been baptized in, it still looked in pretty good shape. Rev. John's sermon was on our sense of smell and the memories it can evoke. Ha ha turns out the Rev. and I have something in common, he mentioned as a kid he liked the smell of gasoline. Reminded me of when I was kid I'd roll down the car window when dad was getting gas because I loved the smell of gasoline. It was a passing phase though...these days the smell of lilacs when riding my bike ranks way above the smell of gasoline!

Lilacs are nice. We have plenty and they flower in two bunches (bushes in May, trees in June) so we have lilacs for a month or more. I love cinnamon smell (and taste but we're talking smells here). Which is too bad because my family hate the stuff.

Thought of Jobam on Sunday. It was our annual Camp Weekend, which means that the Rev and much of the congregation go to Camp Simpresca, leaving a small remnant to deal with a smaller Sunday service. This year, the Music Director and the Pianist offered a service of Hymns. Many of them were mouldy oldies, and I was projecting, and running the sound board, so couldn't drop off to sleep. :giggle:

We had a good church service this past Sunday. Our pastor preached on practical Christian living from the book of James.

I'm really looking forward to this coming Sunday. Yobo's best friend has invited us to her church to witness her baby being baptized.

That must have been back in the olden days eh. Remember the uproar about the kids on some aboriginal reserve sniffing gas to get high?

I hate the smell of gas. Have for years. Between filling mowers and cars, I can't get away from the stuff, but I hate it.

My sister and I used to pop the gas input thing (is there a name for it?) on our old Fargo truck in order to sniff away to our hearts' content. I'm thinking it was not exactly a healthy thing to do....

Yes I have an electric mower as well though it is the older version where I have to watch I don't run over the extension cord. The scent of freshly mown grass is nice too without the gasoline smell that was part of being a kid in the sixties as Rev. John and I both were.

I have been cutting lawns (mainly this very one) for some 50 years with an electric mower and have never once run over the cord. Dorothy across the road has done it twice in five years, though, so obviously talent at cord-avoidance varies a great deal. Because I have quite a few trees and quite a lot of garden, I find an electric mower requires some planning. The most obvious, of course, is to work outwards from the house.

If I go electric, I would want cordless. My yard is fairly big and cord management would be a pain, esp along the back where I have lots of trees and bushes.
