Missed church today
Prolly cause
Yesterday was my monthly washing day
As I was walking to the local laundromat (run by a Christian asian couple) I noticed a LOT of people at the church where I help out
So I wandered over
And discovered that this was the day where everyone goes on a massive cleanup
So I joined in
On the hottest day of the year so far
Didnt do so well
I was sure to take breaks
I mustve lost 20 lbs of water weight
I was amazed seeing...around 100 people both inside and outside cleaning raking digging pruning getting pricked sliced bruised
And then, just like Heaven being a reward, we had
A
Picnic
Mmmm
Homemade food
(Thot it was bizarre that they had to get a permit from the corporation...soon to be a city...)
So thst event was my favourite communion ar that church so far
And since i didnt have any clean tops
Thanks to advice from @Nutmeg i both had a shower and washed some tops
Life is fine
Too hot

Hi,

Here are the words I pronounced on my last official meeting with the gathered community. If you have fifteen minutes to listen, I would appreciate hearing how the words land in your understanding.

George

George....I've always loved the song that you started with...my teacher roots showing. You have a lovely, intentional and sincere approach to delivering such an important message. Thanks.

This was supposed to be a Sunday 'off', where I could worship at my own church. But on Thursday night, I got a call at 9:30 from a friend who was desperate to find someone to lead worship....due to a scheduling mixup. I was about the 5th person she tried, so I have no illusions about how popular I am!!! So, I helped out, even though I had to sort of 'throw' something together. I sure wish I could speak without written text like George. That is a true, beautiful gift. My gift is that I helped out a friend, even though I was just little hesitant.

Today was the last Sunday for our affirming minister Pam as she is moving on into a Spiritual Nurture ministry at McDougall United on the south side of town. It was always a treat when Pam was doing the sermon, her interesting take on life will be missed. Also, missing Rev. Danielle who is off on leave, hope she is better soon as her sermons are always well prepared and well delivered. And thankful to be seeing some healing in my health, so after missing church the last two weeks was able to ride my bike to worship and then went for a nice ride along the river and canal pathways. Only rode 45km, but was tired when I got home so spent the rest of the day in the lawn chair doing my potato impersonation. :)

I really don't know what to think about church today. We had a blanket exercise, prepared by Kiros and modified to fit an hour long worship service. Interesting and informative. And an announcement was made that next Sunday afternoon there will be a large gatherng by the river when the local Maliseets will present the entire 3 to 4 hour exercise with emphasis on local issues.
A Maliseet elder was present. Just before the closing benediction she was invited to speak. She seemed upset by the service saying that too much had been cut from our service, and that this isn't something to be rushed through. She also noted that she was the only Aboriginal present*, and she seemed to resent that we were telling her story. 'Let us tell our own story' was the message I received.
Something to think about.

*Almost all people from the local reserve, and almost all aboriginal people in NB, are Roman Catholic or practice native spirituality, or both.

Small "c" catholic ... universalists? Then some mortal will wish to control IDe ... the a' priori! A kind 've aboriginal start ...

Personal idealisms are to be overcome by those convening to the conforming methods ... fear and anger appear to work B'eta ... presence lie! History being put down ...

I don't think the worship service is a place for the Blanket Exercise, frankly. Especially if your congregation is like ours, and gets antsy at about the 75 minute mark.

It's my experience that indigenous people often feel rushed by Western culture, and it seems to make many of them feel quite disrespected, which I can sympathize with.

Hi,

I remember a scene from a movie called "The Black Robe". Two first nations persons are in a chapel. A clock starts to chime. The one persons asks the other, "What is that?" The other answers, "That is their God. It tells them when to come and when to go.

I like this a great deal, although freely confessing that I am absolutely driven by the Clock.

Hi,

I am married to such a one. Keeps me in bounds most of the time. Looking towards a road trip she spends days searching all available information about our route and things to experience along the way. On the day of departure I tend to turn to her and ask, "So, what direction are we heading?" Amazing that we have been comfortable as companions for more than thirty years now.
