While you're at being labelled ado little have a Ham Berger ... the dark unknowns should be consumed ... if only for cultivation and calm posting ... best if you use intangible words ... confuses the absolutes! It is the nature of our manna ... how were bread into naïveté? Stew PID? A great potential considering the denial of strange intellect ...
 
Thanks Seeler. And yes, Luce, I'm definitely whining. I'm heading off in a few minutes, and bringing a friend with me for moral support. I think if the church had contacted me with answers to my questions, I would be a little less nervous/worried/bummed. It's a little church, usually only about 15 in attendance counting me and the organist, and they have been without a minister for at least 7 years. They are lovely people, but perhaps forget how difficult it is for an 'outsider' to lead special worship, not knowing their traditions and preferences. Oh ya...and my nightmares, which involved the church service, were really interesting, and sort of spy-like, with evil people on bicycles cycling up to the front door of the church, and me wondering...Is there a bomb in that backpack? Oh brother. Or does that mean I'm going to bomb?
 
Oh dear, nancy.

I have had those nights and mornings feeling that I did not are enough or do not have appropriate preparation.

It usually turns out ok.

Bitter cold day, but really good turnout for the children leading today's service. Great to see some really talented children playing instruments (saxophone, violin, piano, guitar, clarinet), a really good teenage soloist (I hope she plans to study music when she goes to university next year). Other children reading responsive prayers, making announcements, and doing a futuristic play aboout the nativity. Lots of carol singing.
Good to see the number of children, from toddlers to teens and young adults taking part.
I generally prefer a more traditional service but this was a nice change.
It's also nice to sit in a pew and not be responsible for angels wings, misplaced instruments, stage fright (I spent most of my adult years working with the children and youth.)
Good soup and sandwiches luncheon after the service.
 
A service about Joy today with the ending of the Scrooge film from 1952 with Alistar Sims (the best Scrooge IMHO) played, to show how when Joy (God) renews our spirit we can be changed. Interesting because sometimes we think once we have "the holy spirit" we will never need to be renewed if something bad happens to us and we lose our joy.

@Nancy, I'm glad your service went well after all.
 
Church was on my birthday at the mission church. I was listed to do the Bible reading - and I said that next year should be interesting - because in a long life I've never done Bible readings in a church on my birthday before.....

The congregation all stood up and sang Happy Birthday which was so sweet of them. Then the two best singers in the congregation sang one of my favourite hymns "How Great though Art". (Afterwards I assured folks that it was about God -and not the fact that I have survived for so long.);)

When I got home there was a message on my phone from the minister - they forgot to give me my birthday cake -it was still in the fridge!
Such is life!
 
A good service at Hillhurst today. Both the Children's Choir and the Adult Choir blessed us with some wonderful music. Then a first for me getting a double-header sermon. First up was Rev. John speaking of how we see Goddess/God. He came up with an image I had never thought of before. Taking scripture from Genesis, Isaiah, and Colossians that all speak of Creator clothing us, John painted an image of Goddess as the Great Seamstress. That would definitely make for an interesting stained glass window image for a church! Then there was a short prayer and up was Rev. Sheena with a sermon on the Magnificat. Sheena said she laughed out loud when she read this Luke narrative earlier in the week. How could Mary be so joyful in the midst of craziness and stress? Then Sheena spoke of the stresses of raising young kids and the busyness of Christmas swirling all around and how we could just stop and learn from Mary's example. Joy is possible no matter what is being thrown at us. If every sermon was as good as what John and Sheena came up with today I'd be happy to have a double-header every Sunday. :)

Time does matter. My mom's United Church minister preaches for just 6 minutes each Sunday. Hardly worth getting off his pew for imho. My Baptist pastor preaches for 40 minutes. Too long, I think. I like 20-25 minutes.

Actually, Jae...I too think time does matter. Our attention wanders after 10 or 15 minutes. But I am guessing that 2 speakers could speak each for 10 minutes, and their different styles and different messages would keep people engaged.
