I never thought of it as part of a chain. I searched for a chain and there is only a small chain in Boston with a different logo. Just a coincidence that there was a Stephanie's where Mystic lives.

Yeah, it's a fairly common woman's name so absent a chain snapping it up, you probably have lots of businesses by that name.

My fast food du jour is Osmow's, the shawarma chain. Terrific pita wraps and their "Oz box" meals are good, too. Love their falafel to the point of basically eating vegetarian once or twice a month

I forgot to mention that I eat a littletin of sardines every day for the Omega-3 fatty acids. Sardines are as healthy as salmon, though they don't taste as good.
My friend Joe (an engineer, a card playing rival, companion walker, and companion restaurant patron) is a "vegan terrorist." He cured his diabetes 2 with a vegan diet, when his medical specialists told him his diabetes was incurable and that he must keep managing the symptoms with meds. His daughter is a professional nutritionist and they are ferocious rivals in cards and nutrition arguments. Joe thinks I eat way too much meat, especially red meat. He sends me all these Youtube videos (Dr. Gregor and Dr. Lustig) on how a vegan diet is the only healthy way to eat. According to Dr. Lustig, the number 1 killer of Americans? Corn syrup, especially in soft drinks! 7 times deadlier than sugar! I guess I'm hoping someone knowledgeable will read my weekly diet and tell me Joe is wrong and that I'm a really healthy eater. Sigh! I wish someone would start a thread on healthy eating, but I'm too much of an addicted carnivore to be the one to do it! :cautious:

What's a professional nutritionist?

Type 2 Diabetes can be managed through activity and diet though it isn't cured. You never get stop being a diabetic, you just manage the condition

Rachel has an MA in nutrition science and a job as a nutrition consultant for the fitness division of a large company.
Oh here there's right to title so unless registered can't use it. Ie.Registered Dietician/Nutritionist

Poor comparison but only thing I can think of is AIDS. Is it like that in terms of once you have met the criteria, you have it regardless of how much lab values improve?

Dietician is a protected title in all Canadian provinces. Nutritionist means the same thing in a few provinces and is also protected in these provinces

Not sure about the United States.

I think the best way to put it would be Mystic's friend is controlling his diabetes with a vegan diet and has been able to go off meds.

From working in mental health I know that some psych meds cause diabetes. Some cause major weight gain. I am not certain about reversing the diabetes when it is medication induced.
If you stop taking certain meds, SOME drug induced diabetes can be reversed.

That's what the diabetes specialist told my friend Joe. She was wrong! He is no longer a diabetic. but he is now a "vegan terrorist" with utter disdain for diabetes specialists!

UPDATE:
Spent the afternoon with Joe playing cards. His diabetes cure is verified by the standard battery of medical tests (dramatically lower blood sugar, etc.),
At the same time his vegan diet cured his neuropathy. Now if he would just stop proselytizing me to give up meat! Grrr!
