Tear them up for emergency bandages. Added usefulness if you use them to teach the kids how to use a roll bandage -ankle, knee, wrist etc.. they are all different.

Some really creative ideas here. My contribution for the day, practical.

Tear into strips and used to tie up tomato plants.

Tear it up into strips. Dye them a bunch of different colours (maybe leave some un-dyed) and make a rag rug - indoor doormat sized. I'm sure there's a video or a book on how to weave them.

Similar idea - make a bunch of different sized drawstring bags for different uses: lunch bags, goodie bags, shopping bags. It might work as a washing bag for bras or delicates.

Make artificial flowers with them. Cut up round and oblong petal shapes and layer them then wrap the base with wire leaving a "stem" hanging down - then wrap a strip of the fabric, dyed green, or green ribbon, dipped in wallpaper paste around the stem up to the base. You could leave some pieces sticking out on the way up and use scissors to round them into "leaves". Glue a few seed beads in the centre of each one. You could sprinkle a tiny bit of glitter on them so they catch the light.

Another tear into strips project- tear into strips and crochet a rug. You may even be able to knit the strips if you prefer.

@Northwind ;) beat you to it up thread (great minds think alike?):)

I went through all the posts before I posted it because I figured someone must've mentioned it before me. :)

Slightly different crafting style than I was thinking, though.

Just occurred to me that the thinner pieces -- about 4 layers folded into rectangles would make an excellent, soft and absorbent diaper. I know they are still in use by some.
