Depends on what the new government does once in power, doesn't it? I think a lot of Americans thought electing Trump wasn't going to change their lives, only others, and are now finding out otherwise. From the platforms so far, though, I don't really see much changing, esp. since the carbon tax and capital gains reforms are already scrapped (and only the former affected me since my capital gains were well below the threshold). Will the outcome of the Canadian election change anything in your life one way or another?
Well, some people can think beyond their own noses and how it affects their family and the rest of the country residents. Its ok not to vote if you are living abroad.None of that will affect me, a Canadian who, along with about 4 million other Canadians, lives outside Canada
CBC for me is very special; The CBC should be defunded, they should have to operate like any other news outlet. Tax payers should not be forced to pay for the spread of government approved propaganda. They are not unbiased media, they have been bought through federal spending and they do not hold government to account.
Jump back. Read my comment #156Well, some people can think beyond their own noses and how it affects their family and the rest of the country residents. Its ok not to vote if you are living abroad.
The 20 years that I was still allowed to vote in Germany while living in Canada, I made a point to support the democratic parties versus the right wing fascists.
Keep in mind that if you're talking the PBS/NPR model, they do get government money, just not directly but through things like the National Endowment for the Arts. But is certainly much less percentage-wise than the CBC.If people are so passionate about the CBC, why doesn't the CBC just stop the debate by going all in on the subscription model? They could generate more money, produce better content, get off government funding, and not burden people who want to defund them by taking their money. If the majority of Canada actually wanted it, there should be no problem selling it.
This exactly. Which is largely what we had with the old PCs, esp. in the Mulroney era. It was the merger with the Reformers that screwed things up.Be fiscally conservative, jettison the religious wingnuts from the party, and come back as a sane alternative to the Liberals. That's all they had to do, and they are blowing it.
Do you work for a troll farm?
Let Bernier and his Peoples Party of Canada have the SoCons. I'd wager they'd gain more than they'd lose. But no, they have to rip off Trump, and then when Trump turns on Canada, they freak out that they are being associated with him? After copying his rhetoric? This exactly. Which is largely what we had with the old PCs, esp. in the Mulroney era. It was the merger with the Reformers that screwed things up.
No, she just follows all the troll farms. From somewhere near Steinbach, the hub of crazy in Canada.Do you work for a troll farm?
I wonder aloud how many "old PCs" are left? Maybe that's the problem - they're all Reform-type nutjobs, so they can't jettison the rhetoric because that's literally what they are now. And the NDP don't seem electable. So if the religious culture was stuff doesn't turn you off, you vote Conservative, but for the rest of us, we hold our noses and hope the Liberals are gonna be better this time. This exactly. Which is largely what we had with the old PCs, esp. in the Mulroney era. It was the merger with the Reformers that screwed things up.
People seem to think I could choose to be a Christian. I think that's preposterous.i wish people could choose, on a whim, to believe what they want
