In an attempt to get my reading fires burning again, I picked a fairly interesting-sounding fantasy novel called Arcanum from my library's My Libby electronic collection and started reading it. Author is Simon Morden, an award winning sff author so that's promising. Setting is an alternative Europe where Christianity (and Islam, but that's less relevant to the story) didn't happen and magic works. Rome still fell, the Germanic tribes still took over Europe, but they remain pagan and an order of wizards called hexmasters wields a fair bit of power. The Goths use of magic helped in the sack of Rome, for instance, but that's a millennium in the past at the time of the story (so it's c. 1410CE on our calendar, but with no Christianity, they don't use the BC/AD dating). There's monsters, too, with some nasty giants appearing right in the first chapter. Unicorn horns are playing a key role in one of the plot threads (probably going to be the main one, I think).

Well-written but has the same problem I found with A Game of Thrones: Each chapter has a viewpoint character and there are several viewpoint characters, so that things jump around quite a bit. There's crossover between character arcs, though, so that may smooth out with time.

i'm reading books that have sat on a real-life bookshelf for years.
I am actually going to see if the library has a dead tree copy. If it's a large book, though, I might stick with ebook. With my arthritic fingers, not sure I can handle a doorstopper as well as I can a tab or e-reader.

LAst week I finished Life After Doom by Brian McLAren. It is a book about responding to CLimate Change however I found in a number of places the discussion could feed into other areas (like the future of the church since that is sort of a topic of interest of mine).

Right now I am reading Theology in a Digital World by David Lochhead. This is an early book in the field (1988, with he first chapter originally a lecture given in 1984) but it is highly prescient IMO. Lochhead raises issues that we are still (albeit in different ways) trying to work through now. This is part of my SAbbatical this summer

Digital world ... a place so complex so as to keep simple desires repulsed ... a difficult pass? What if the supporting field is dismissed ... I read that yesterday 1000's lost their jobs in another facet of this field of vocation. If all people are eliminated what will support the great "I" ve the thingy?

Something will be hollowed out like the hulk of enterprise ... self consumed!

One rule I learned in ancient economics was that the loss of 1 vocation disrupted 6 alternate supplies ... 7 in total runes ... runes is something else ... a mind-bashing qualm ... the unknown bumping!

My SAbbatical reading has continued with "Tweet if you Love JEsus" and "iJesus" AS I explore how to be a Hybrid Church in a Hybrid world. Just started one called Both/And, written coming out of Covid where so many faith communities were pushed online

Here's the thing ... If Jesus is the light (as secured within word, story, etc.) would knowledge and wisdom be entailed as Sophia (an elusive portion of God as the entire integral)? If one were to get into this matter that is questionable (according to tyrannical authority) how do we deal with it? Best in the silence as the physical portion will consume you ... with consequence! Thus if you are literate ... take heed ...

How does the real world feel about being enlightened and out of the cloud of emotions? Just take a turn and look about ... it is brutal ... as it requires pain to learn much about the God of Wisdom ... an ephemeral essence? It is hinted in the icons that going against the gods of conflict can give you relief (i.e. take you out of it). That may be Psyche's move ... and perhaps a UFO as it seems to be value out of reach of mortal authority, escapism as pro wrestling to a empowered observers. To be enlightened carry the Magi Aye of a camel ... a peculiar thing like gnomon in the desert ... watching silently and persistently from an arid position in the highlands? It is all symbolic, iconic ... as suggested by myth of wisdom in a brutal beast ... Revelation!

I happen to be reading an old theological text that uses the code name for enlightenment ... because powers would rather the common John and Jonah's to be unaware of monstrosity like literature. Thinking men are determined to be dangerous to will ... and yet we preach love and not philosophy as love of knowledge and wisdom is discarded (philosophy?). Is there anything to be inquired about in a turn about a vast field of illuminating essence?

How is this done in the state of heavens "becoming" out of past being? The alter clause ... something has to gather in the quantum flow ...

The discussion starts over fixed things like orthodox and and items drifting out of that containment as release of heresy ... for relief of stress over laws that are imperfect (human). Thus forms a cynic of 2-sided order as a doppelganger ... each whine of release having an echo or Ego as awareness of knowledge returning as a stinking thought to great dealers ... the shaft of the fleur di Lise! In this portion of the ricocheting info there is an opposing sense of power of something mysterious illumination from which we are eclipsed ... blacked out to force book worming? Pr IOns ... charged and dashing innately! The inside of myth as it expands ... like Wesleyan Theology when based on a single word ... there is a massive spectra available ...

If such psyche things are revealed there may be eruptions ... in the physical establishment ... rants and rackets? World physicians are like that when separated from the light, fiery element ... plasma ... a cutting gas! What is hidden in myth is mythical and physically unbelievable ... because it just isn't as appears ... incarnate ... becoming! The beautiful obscurity! Is that like occult ... dark and beautiful soul ... relief ... for persecuted thought!

Would shadowy beasts believe or such absorb without knowledge and consciousness ... remaining silent ... as conspicuously unaware or counter to WOKE (an attitude about discriminating) ...

I've heard that Christians of modern eras do not wish to hear of WOKE and its meaning ... it bothers that sector. Then bother has the metaphors; worry, trouble, concern and counter to Joy in dropping off at night ... except for the horse in midstream ... Black Beauty, etc. Imperfection may slip through for autonomous solution ... extracting them from your darkened heads-up ... like the Hebrew letter nun, that is doubled for end and mid-dell use! Abstract of what is coming ... as we become something else unbelievable ... wi*Seri? That voice out of the automated box (scattering thought)?

Is that enough to initiate something? Black, silent eruption ... nobody knows, nobody cares and thus those long black robes ... similar to men in Black Suits ... carrying God knows what ... Jack Nicholson said they didn't know either ... but accusatory ...

Did you ever wonder what made the imperfect corrupt? Is it self-destruction ... collectively maybe we could get it together ... not a chance in hell as dedicated to conflict and aggressiveness ... the alternate flees ... takes flight (surely)!

Can you tell people from away? Strangers ...

The title is Chris Tyan Thought (Tony Lane on philosophy of past development) where if Cris is light it connects some illuminants ... a crispy topic to those contained by one book ... human bondage?

I'm reading "in winter I get up at night" by Jane Urquhart

Her descriptions and insights are excellent

I am listening to it on audible and struggled identifying the time period which shifts with each chapter.

I am now conscious i have to look at the app to see if chapter changed

That wouldn't be an issue for someone reading a book
