'Really proud of her': How Ruby Kerr endured 29 hours cold and alone
This is the story of a young girl who got lost in the bush last Friday. I can honestly say that our whole city was praying/hoping/helping for a rescue. And it happened. Several years ago, two friends of my son got lost in the bush for a couple of days...and eventually just wandered out on their own. Not all stories are so happy but it's nice that some are.

Good morning! For improving health of family members, and safe return from holidays, we give thanks. For injured feet and ankles, we commiserate. For friends out west who may need to evacuate, and for those affected by smoke, even at a distance from the fire, we offer what support we can. As we gather in spirit around the Coffee Cart, let us remember all whose circumstances are improving slowly, as well as those who are going through rough situations. And may the SIM card be found for the phone.

Discovered there is a layer of heavy clay and rocks under the layer of sandy clay and rocks under the top soil where i will be planting trees this week. Glad I only need to dig three holes.

Been there, done that, didn't get the t-shirt. Good luck and have ... fun? I found breaking it up with a pickaxe helped if you've got one around (we borrowed one from a friend).

Good morning. It's hazy here today. I think that might be forest fire smoke from next door. It doesn't help that our neighbour(s) are chain smoking on their deck which might be ten feet from us. They've also been smoking a fair amount of pot. I've had to close the windows at the back and on their side of the trailer. I'm not happy about that. It's better though than having the trailer full of smoke.

Ugh. Worth having a word with them or is this a short stay so that you'll be rid of them soon? I would be a very unhappy ape given that my sinuses, while better than they used to be, still don't handle a lot of fumes of any kind well.

They are permanent. We're temporary. We'll be leaving on Monday. We've tolerated it up to now because it has been fleeting. Today they seem to be chain smoking.

Air Quality is worse today, 10+, so the highest risk rating.
I wish Chemguy stayed home, I prefer the door to not be opened at all when itlike this. We're looking into another air purifier so we have at least 1 upstairs and one on the main floor.

Ughhhh smoke. Today we have a smelly blue haze. Yesterday stinky dark smoke descended. Visibility was seriously reduced - probably about one residential block (ten houses). Cabin fever is settling in.

I've been out and about the park today. It's quite smokey here today. Now I'm inside knitting a sweater in the AC. I'll probably go sit outside and read a book later. I just finished watching an interesting documentary on King George III. YouTube is a black hole. Not a bad thing on a day like today.

I am coughing up a lung because of the tree blooms at present. The apples, the crab apples are out in full bloom, magnolias just finished, and lilacs about to get very fragrant. It appears to be a particular bad year for "tree sex" for all tree pollen sufferers this year. My sinuses are done, again; I can barely hear, and I can't taste. There was a salt incident last week. I am very glad I don't have to add smoke irritation to that.

I am feeling ridiculously bereft at present. My beloved little iPhone is hanging out in the repair shop getting a new battery, and she will be done by 9 p.m., but they weren't promising much before then. It is very unsettling how addicted I am to this little device.

I still do not have a sim card for my old phone so have been been without the use of a phone for calls or text messages since 12 pm April 25. One of the disadvantages of not living close to a major centre. The guy at the Virgin booth in Ottawa on Monday said there was a Virgin kiosk in Lachute so we went there yesterday. Learned their employee moved to Laval so the kiosk is temporarily closed. Called Virgin and they are mailing my a sim card.

Seems the younger crowd are turning back to flip phones without all the extras...heard this on a talk show yesterday.
They seem to be realizing how much time their phones are taking up.

Good morning! For those affected by smoke, from fires or neighbours, for those planting trees in stubborn soil, for those dealing with phones, smart, flip fold, or otherwise, for all the other things that go on in the course of a day, we are here for it. The Coffee Cart is up and running, for conversation and hot beverages. All are welcome.

My husband is improving .

Depending on test results may come home to recuperate for a number of months, plus surgeries in future.

A lot depends on how his body heals.

Hospital time plus stress has taken a lot out of me as well. Hit the wall last night with my body throwing a hissy fit: GI was not happy.

Doesn't help that the hot water heater decided to bite the dust....or that his car needs more work than I imagined

Being married to a mcgyver is good, but not good when they can no longer mcgyver stuff

Well, my little penchant for on-line shopping seems to have paid off today. I have two new pairs of compression half-gloves, fashioned of bamboo. I'm hoping they'll protect my hands a bit from chemicals at work (they are very washable), keep me from scratching my wrists (a key eczema point), and help keep the arthritis at bay a bit. The daytime ones are a little heavier, and a dark charcoal, so they'll blend in with my work shirts. They have rubber bumps to help with grip. The night time ones are lighter weight, in a soft grey, no bumps. The bamboo is supposed to be temperature-regulating. I can certainly type fine in them, my wrists are not itchy and my hands are neither hot nor cold. So far, so good.

Also, my new work shoes arrived, and they are super spiffy.

In not so good news, my plumbing career is not taking off. I have a consult in with the big guy, who is out of town at present.

Great to hear he's doing better but all the other stuff - always seems to happen with poor timing.
