Oh wow, I have not played in years, maybe decades. Didn't even think to look for the board when I was at the cottage this summer. That's where we usually played, though I think we had a set at home, too.
Yes - it was definitely a cottage game for us too. We used to set up big 'round robin' tournaments - charts & all! So its kind of fun to have one in the house now. Did you know the World Crokinole Championships take place in Tavistock ON? Something like 400 player from around the world are usually there!

Arrrrrrrgh! It be Talk like a Pirate Day!! Shiver me timbers!
As we think of Covid and crokinole, and see the funeral for Queen Elizabeth, the coffee cart is up and running, as a place to host your discussions and chat. Help yourself to the hot beverage of your choice and join us.

Good morning. We did not wake up at 0200 hours to watch the funeral. We did not stay up for it either. The TV is on now and the family is leaving the church. The coffee is good and the infrared fireplace is giving us some heat. My blanket is growing me warm while I add to it.

I should note, I took my daughter (the cautious one) riding on the weekend on a course that we may race on next weekend. We got to a fun, twisty and downhill part of the course and she got going a bit too fast out of the exit of a turn, panicked, and hit the brakes. Over the bars she went.

I was ahead so I had to turn around and find her. She was already up and walking to me. No tears, no nothing. Just walking. Then she admitted she was having a hard time seeing. Oh boy...

We walked back to the aid station and had her checked over by a paramedic. Her vision was much improved by this point, 15 minutes later. Some head pain, but she did land on her chin. Minimal bleeding. We were given the reasons why we might want to go to a walk in clinic or emerg if things got worse, but they never did.

When we got home I noticed the tire marks up the back of her leg. Her bike literally ran her over as she landed, lol.

She's fine now. I never thought this one would go over the bars. I've never warned her about braking too much with the left hand, because she never really put herself in that position. I'm honestly super proud of her. It's a learning experience. I've been over the bars a few times, maybe literally 4 times in total. As she said, she went "ass over teakettle" and it rang her bell a little.

She'll be back there.

I did it once. Broke my wrist trying to protect my head (this was in the days when I wasn't wearing a helmet religiously). And guess where my arthritis is worst?

I can't get her to wear riding gloves. This may convince her, even though she landed in a loamy area and didn't hurt her hands.

The helmet didn't even get scratched. Just her chin. I congratulated her on saving her new helmet. Those things are expensive. Have to protect them in a fall.

My daughter did this when she was young. My boys decided to teach her how to ride a two wheeler by putting her at the top of a hill and giving her a push while yelling pedal. They forgot to tell her where the brakes were. She did a face plant and her whole face swelled up like a balloon. She didnt even look like her for about 3 weeks. The scream was enough to send me flying to the school asap.
Fortunately she recovered, but extremely sore for awhile.

I went over the handlebars once, from sheer inattention to the task at hand (riding a bike). I don't know what I was day dreaming about, but I suddenly found myself on top of a parked car with my bike stopped at its back fender.

No harm, no foul. Car was undamaged, bike was undamaged except for the front basket, my dignity was damaged.

I was an absent minded bike rider, and the trait has persisted into adulthood, at times. I've never since found myself on top of a car, though.

My son does lots of trail riding now - new hobby for him. He has some cool gloves (and other gear) that have this substance in them that is flexible until any impact then becomes protectively rigid - quite amazing technoloogy! He wears them to protect the backs of his knuckles, hands/wrists from getting nasty whacks from branches etc - electricians need their hands to be in good shape!!

Good morning! As we speak of blankets incomplete and bike rides interrupted, and all sorts of other things coming to mind, let us gather round the coffee cart, where fresh brewed coffee, and plenteous hot water and tea leaves, and etc. await. See you soon.

Good morning again! Once more the coffee cart is ready, warm and inviting. Drop in and join the conversation (provided one happens today) Or take your choice of hot beverages, and sit quietly and contemplate life.

Here we are working to develop our crokinole skills :giggle: I recently picked up a board for $15 at the ReStore. Now we've spent on new buttons, new posts, spray wax etc. .... it's one of those 'bargains' :ROFLMAO: But we like games & haven't played crokinole in decades - so it's bringing some challenges & new learning! Any other crokinole players here?
We have a board set up in our basement, and grand kids and great nieces and nephews love to play.

Good morning, it seems like fall has arrived a couple days early, it is chilly out there.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with my doctors at hospice house to try to predict the future. That something doctors say they can't do but that I consider important for me to know so I can prepare for it. I don't know what to hope for at this point. So often I've been prepared for the worst but been surprised.
