It's a long weekend in Ontario - Monday is "family day."

Have a great visit with your company, Carolla.

It is a long weekend here (for some - our major employer follows federal rules also, so no day off for them) - in Manitoba it is called Louis Riehl Day.

Hope you have a much better week, @Justme . . . virtually wrapping you in a prayer shawl :).

Aww . . . @Pr. Jae - hope your Yobo feels better soon.

Hey, Nancy, was thinking about school children yesterday and wondering if they had a "Valentine's Day" party . . . that was such a big thing when I was in elementary school - cutting out (didn't have "punch out" then, writing the cards, decorating the valentine card box, placing the cards in the boxes, and then having a party).

@Seeler - I think you are doing lots for Valentine's Day - it is a day for showing and sharing LOVE - and that is what you are doing with your crock-pot of chicken stew :). How wonderful to have a new home - hope it is filled with much love and laughter in the years to come for all of them.

@Beloved - Thank you. Last night my Yobo did get out of bed and come upstairs for a short time. That's a good sign - as she had been resting all day.

@Seeler - your chicken stew sounds wonderful.

@Pr. Jae when I've flown with a cold/allergies I have made sure to take a sudafed about 20 minutes before departure and then took another when the box said it was ok. I also used nasal spray once I got on the plane. If her ears are hurting a trick that worked is to put two glasses over your ears (drinking glasses) and then slightly tilt one and it will clear your ears a bit. Also warm clothes behind her ears could help too. I hope she has a somewhat pleasant flight and feels better soon. I don't know if your Yobo is able to take medications I just wanted to let you know what helps me.

Thank you Justme. I will suggest those things to her. She does take medicine - but I feel that mostly it's stuff that she buys at the local Korean market when she grocery shops there.

Good morning all!

-37 C with no will chill - hope I don't have to go out tody . . . a beautiful pink sunrise on the horizon right now.

Warmer, relatively, here. -16 with wind chill making it feel like -21 or something like that. Low of -22 tonight. Chance of squalls and 10cm or so of new snow in those squalls.

Thanks Nancy.

What grade do you teach?
Grades One and Two. I posted on my facebook page that my class genuinely cares about each other, and that the world would be a better place if we followed their lead. They, I mean, we, are not perfect, but we problem solve, work hard to be respectful, and are happiest when we are learning and getting along with each other. Sadly, the adult part of my work place is not so gifted.

Chemguy has given me some chocolates, we still need to go grocery shopping for dinner. I got some odd sensations in my arm and leg last night, and some of that is still persisting. Similar to the tingling problem I get, but different. I also got the ear pain again, so it's a slower start for me today.

Otherwise, we'll be dealing with our freezer. Somehow moving the fish tank upstairs led to the freezer being unplugged. Chemguy figured this out a few days ago, and the food was too warm by that point.

@ChemGal - on no! to your freezer. What an awful thing to have to deal with. Many, many years ago we had a freezer in our entryway and for some reason the plug wouldn't stay in (I eventually taped it with duct tape LOL), and we had it come unplugged and had to throw everything out and what a mess to clean up. Hope your day improves and you don't start to feel worse. Chocolates . . . mmmmm - lucky girl.

Your students are lucky to have you @Nancy - I know some very wonderful teachers . . . and the ones that are wonderful are the ones like you who genuinely care for each and every student and do their best to make a difference in their lives. It must be a difficult, challenging profession at times, and I stand in awe of those that do it, and do a great job.

Going to watch the beginning of the Scotties today . . . first game at 2 p.m. my time.

Oh @ChemGal my nose remembers that pain oh so very well (the pain of your freezer not your body) - we moved to our new house and left a few days later for Calgary but there had been a sale on chicken just before we left so we "stocked up". Some time during the week we were in Calgary the freezer came unplugged. The smell was horrible *shudder*.

I'm sorry you have symptoms today - that really sucks.

Justme, my parents had partnered with a family member to raise chickens. Best chicken that I have ever had. Sadly, the freezer cord was knocked out and the freezer full of chickens went bad. Worst smell. Freezer never recovered

Luckily, it didn't get that bad. Things were still cool, but above proper refrigeration temperatures. The food is all in the garbage in the garage, hopefully that won't smell to badly, but if it starts we'll just move it outside. Garbage day is Tuesday.
Our freezer does have a bit of a smell, not the full rotten food smell. Chemguy was dealing with it, I think there's baking soda in there right now.

Thanks all, I'm feeling better, although still a bit off. It's just going to be a lazy day, Chemguy is napping while listening to something on headphones right now. That's his thing - fish tanks and headphones. Cheaper than sportscars :) I don't understand why he needs so many though.

Baking soda and vinegar might help too or some charcoal brickettes (the kind for old fashioned bbqs) left in the open freezer will also help (I put them in a nylon wash bag). I like the vinegar and baking soda because I love to watch the "explosion" it works on so many things - work out clothes in front load washers, stuck on food, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions!

We came back from a six week trip one year to find that our 20 year old freezer had given up the ghost. Terrible smell. We baggaged everything in garbage bags and threw it out. Then hired someone to take away the freezer.

Then last summer our electricity was off after a hurricane - and we lost much of what was in the newer small upright freezer. It was still partially frozen but we didn't want to take the risk. It hadn't reached the smelling stage and aa quick wipedown was all the freezer needed.

my current freezer -has a warning buzzer that rings if the temperature gets too low. (I consider it a gift from the Bay-because it was scratch and save day and I scratched off the price of the freezer-17 years ago).
Once-when I shared a house with 3 other single girls we discovered that our freezer had become unplugged. We were able to save all of the meat-things were still partially frozen-we just had dinner guests all week and we ate well!
