My sister and I were talking (gloomily) on the phone yesterday...saying that it will probably be another lock-down Christmas in our city. Our COVID numbers are climbing. Rumour is that it got out of hand because our homeless situation got out of hand. It's spreading in the schools, families, industry, jail, and even the hospital.
Wow - yes - your case numbers ae certainly spiking. But more importantly - what is happening with the hospitalization rate? Is it showing a corresponding jump that jeopardizes the availability of care? It's quite possible that gross case numbers can be high - but many of those people may have less serious illness burden. That should not trigger big lock downs as such restrictions were a tool to relieve stress on hospitals. Fingers crossed you will be able to see family at Xmas.

Sad to see rumours pinning spread on those who are homeless.

EDIT - my apology - I've veered off into COVID discussion, not "room" chatting.

Good morning, all! The coffee cart is up and running, help yourself. As the pandemic lingers on, let us gather in spirit and support (safely) around the cart.

Lingering ... does that inhibit MO of desires? Only in a moment of shock when it hits you with tremendous impact ...

The onset of GEO metrics and a measure of the helical, inclined plain ... uphill journey all the way?

Chi'll be coming around the mountain ...

So glad I shared the sausage rolls and mince tarts recently. I just discovered that the rest, the ones put in the freezer for later, have now been tossed. Also tossed was lots of meat, fish, berries, homemade soups etc. All the stuff from the freezer that will break our budget to replace. Of course the freezer now needs replacing too despite being only a year old.

Happy December 1st. I have four! Advent calendars. My one sister sent me a photo calendar with stories and poems, called “ The different Advent” ( in German), from an initiative that does just that and also does send you letters once a week during lent. Then a friend made me a calendar out of toilet paper rolls with candy in it and it came with a bag of treats for the cat, because she will get it after I am done the calendar as a “puzzle “ to fish out the treats. She started early and fished out the candy yesterday while I was at work.
My other sister set me a book that has a story for every day of advent. And I bought myself the Davids tea advent calendar, so I have a tea every night while reading my advent stories.
Here a pic of the crafty calendar, with the destruction by the cat showing.

Good morning! Happy December! As we deal with the turmoil of freezers that stop freezing, as we begin to open Advent calendars (unless the cat gets there first), let us gather in spirit round the coffee cart for conversation and hot drinks.

OMG - that's horrible Kay! Did your freezer have any warranty on it?

Five year warranty - and it was about a year old. Dealer (local) said we would get the value of it applied to a replacement of our choice. The down side is that we can't move the broken one out and a new one in and the dealer is delivering to the north today. I didn't think I would long for it to be colder outside so our food stayed closer to frozen!

When I toasted my English muffin this morning, it had a faint sweet taste. Not unpleasant but unusual. Finally figured it out!

Mr Paradox had just toasted two freezer waffles and some of the sweetness lingered in the toaster. Who would have thought?

And I bought myself the Davids tea advent calendar, so I have a tea every night while reading my advent stories.
I've never had one myself but a friend at work had one one year and I think it's where I first tried Buddha's Blend, now the only tea I would actually buy from David's (otherwise, my local store has a better selection). There should be a shipment form the local place waiting when I get home tonight. I ordered on Monday, which was in time to make their Wednesday delivery (local delivery is free over $20 but only delivers on Wed. and Sat.).

I usually pick up a chocolate advent calendar - choose kinder this year, was a tough choice between that and lindt. Bought Chemguy a Reese one, he's less into them and often eats the chocolate all at once, so he doesn't always get one, sometimes just chocolate instead.

I also ended up with a babybel one. Late night additions to a grocery order - was mostly adding Christmas stocking stuffers for family and came across it. Was cheaper than buying the cheese on sale. Not sure how long the box will stick around, although it's narrow enough

The dollar tea advent calendar is tempting, but the cost is off-putting considering the cost of their normal teas. I think I could easily justify it as a gift for someone. But for myself, seems more reasonable to buy the teas I like plus the 3 subscription small sized ones each month as a way to try new things. The advent ones aren't even in a calendar packaging, they are numbered - good for reducing waste. The exclusive flavours are a bit of the hook for me, but what if I really like them? Can't order more, so their usual offerings it is.

Good morning! As the Advent calendars (tea, cheese, chocolate, whatever) are opened, and the treasures contained therein are enjoyed, just a PSA: No cheating! Instant gratification ain't worth it! With that said, the coffee cart is up and running. Help yourself.

Ugh roads are awful again. Mostly residential this time. People were out with ice skates on the streets. Just haven't had enough sanding yet to deal with the freeze/thaws at all.

Yesterday we had one of the warmest days on record. It got to about 15 here. Tomorrow snow is a possibility.

Good morning, all! As we chat about weather, climate, roads and undated chocolate, independent of an Advent calendar's restriction, let us gather round about the coffee cart. All is ready.
