Can you see this worded differently for alternate consequences for those wishing power to swing their way personally?

Well, they wanted to make him king but he refused. He also makes clear that he is not present in the way of those who sit and are served. He is among us as one who serves.
Jesus as king serves imperial agenda well. Not so with Jesus as prophet calling religious and political powers to repentance - now as then.

There are many who prefer this way of thinking about God. I can accept it but do not prefer it. History shows that the image of a God of power who controls all things has led to many distortions of God's presence and purpose in our human experience. Specially when this image is 'carved in stone'.
My preferred start point in understanding and expressing the way of God revealed in the gospel of Jesus would be:
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ isLord, to the glory of God the Father."
Here the emphasis is on humility and service rather than pride and privilege expressed in monarchical language. I do not deny that monarchical language is present the the text. I simply prefer following the way of God revealed in the merciful, just and humble Jesus of Nazareth.

Yes and sometimes that mind may incarnate as subconscious ... sometimes none is involved for those that deny mind exists ... allowing the mind some recourse ... a kind of mythical reaction ... or even soft response! Thus the vanities may not collapse until later when the thoughts catch up ... the dynamic part of the sol being way ahead in an emotional rush ...
