This morning I phoned my friend who's son-in-law took his life a few days ago. I didn't know whether to or not, or what to say, but I kept feeling the urge and felt that I would regret it if I didn't. I never know what is right or proper to do or what to say in a case like this. So I called midmorning knowing she would be up but not yet too busy. I expressed my sympathies, and ask if she was 'alright'. She seemed glad I called and she took it from there - expressing her anger and fustration, and deep sorrow.
I will skip the visitation at the funeral home tonight - it will be crowded with close friends of the immediate family and people from the hospital where he worked. I'll be at the funeral tomorrow. Ours is a big church with seating for probably over 500 - these large sanctuaries do come in handy sometimes.
Busy today - defrosting the freezer - with laundry baskets of frozen food piled on the back deck. Temp today just a few degrees below freezing. It will be ok.
