Communion today. Advent 2

One of my favourite songs "I was there to hear your borning cry I'll be there when you are old"

Mom and I attended the worship service of our former Baptist church. Excellent worship with good singing, prayer, sermon and the Lord's Supper. As part of the service, the pastor called mom and I to the front and gave thanks for the time we and Yobo had spent ministering with the church. They also gave us gifts - for mom a nice tea set and for Yobo and I gift cards to a steak house. I also gave a brief update on how things are going at our current Baptist church. :)

Today was White Gift Sunday and the children's pageant. Pretty busy friggin' place. The pageant was funny and well done and well sung.

Now intrigued.

Although I must confess I'm still stewing about the Moderator's message a few weeks ago. I, too, have a currently unresolved dilemma in my life.

Church yesterday was Ok - lots of singing beginning with People Look East (one of my favourites) interspersed with prayers and short explanations of the various symbols of Christmas including the dedication of eight or ten pointsetia plants donatedd by various families in momory of loved ones. No sermon. A pleasant, relaxed, non-traditional service. Quite enjoyable. And lots of white gifts gathered from the congregation by the Sunday School children. I will be involved in distributing them to our guests on Wednesday.

Last week our minister preached perhaps the best sermon I have heard her preach.
Next Sunday will be led by the children and youth.

Advent 4 was lovely! The choir performed a most uplifting cantata.

The opening "hymn" was Perhaps Love by John Denver.

I have heard this song many times but never knew it was written by John Denver.

Church was great today. Preached for two different churches today - my own and another just starting up. This being the Sunday of Peace, I preached from Ephesians on the armor of God. Excellent music today too at both small churches.

Actually, the first recording of it was a duet by Denver and opera tenor Placido Domingo. Mom had the Domingo album it was on (and we might still have a cassette of it around).

Love. Focussed on the deep meaning of short periods of our life. How we can spend 3 minutes. What important things we can convey in the daily minutes of our lives. We had communion, and it was served in the pews with love and care. At the end of the service, we processed out with a light from the Christ Candle to light the central candle of the Peace Labyrinth.

After the trinity of moments ... we process mentally how we may deal with the con sequences? Thus the vision comes forth --- Moses!

The Sunday School and youth group did a fabulous pageant at church yesterday. They were very creative in presenting the traditional story in fun way.

Our small Sunday School presented a charming skit. Short but definitely sweet. Some sad things though...A couple of the regulars, those who are really involved in the church, are quite sick. One is our secretary/treasurer whose doctor said she wouldn't make it to Christmas. She has attended church regularly, except for yesterday...too much pain. A member of the congregation made a prayer shawl for her and we passed it around the church so each of us could hold it, and pray over it before it is given to her. It's times like this when we really feel like a family...crying and caring together.

Our service (quite well attended despite the overnight snow storm) was on Epiphany with lots of Epiphany hymns and readings from Isaiah and Matthew - the light shining in the darkness, no specific references to politics but a general acknowledgement that life has its dark periods and our need to find encouragement and enlightenment in the Light.
(Don't ask my minister - she may have felt that she gave a different message, but that was what I took away.)

Went to two good church services yesterday.

The first was in the morning and was of my own Baptist church. My pastor gave a really sound and powerful message - one of his best. It was from Acts 2 about the coming of the Spirit of God, and the establishment of the Church.

The second was of a nondenominational church. I had been invited to be the guest preacher, and spoke from Ephesians 6 on the armor of God.

Went to church .. and later assisted in organizing an Elvis Gospel Concert that was well received ...

All this even though some said they were all uncomfortable with the moves and shakes ... that got too close to the concept of the lord of dance when some standards are impressed on the terrorized by power!

The standards include"
  • No dance
  • No bowling
  • No theatre
  • No beer
  • And certainly no attending a base-ball game on the day of rae creation as separate from the work of living ...
Almost seems like those could strip the meat of the bones of Job's Tory of life in the physical sense ... the imagination and abstract ... as muscle to be pass'over to other causes ... hard noots to crack as they stick to the wall?

One should understand subtle passing's ... ancient accumulated understanding wisdom in an alien realm ... a psyche right out of here?

Could that be beyond us fixated sorts of cards ... believing the Trump dedication to conflict instead of the challenge of co-opts?
