Is this where intro posts go? I hope so.

I am a small brown frog, or hope to be when I grow up. I hatched just yesterday but was lucky enough to have my internet connected quickly. Pond computing and all.

My alter ego is a mild-mannered atheist and former UCC member. No drama there, I simply lack faith. That's how I came to know about WonderCafe and WC2. I have a university degree in making big rocks into little rocks. My specialites are mineral exploration, geochemistry and geochronology. I was a biologist in a previous life. I live in eastern Canada with my wife of 4 1/2 years and our beagle, Darwin. My hobbies include gardening, watching the night sky and growing carnivorous plants.

It is indeed, @Hyla . Welcome to Wondercafe2. I am ex-UCCan as well, but not strictly an atheist. I describe as an agnostic pantheist. I was UU for over a decade after leaving the United Church but am unchurched at present.

Join in the fun and don't let the weirdos scare you off. There's this guy who goes around dressed as a gorilla and ... oh yeah, that's me.

Oh, @Hyla if you need help with anything, post in Tips and Techniques. A scan of the posts there might help you get oriented, too.

Welcome Hyla. Isn't it great to live in postmodern times in which we're all free to self-declare as anything we want. You say you're a frog? Okay, the rest of us have to accept that. I'm also a former UCC member. Gave that up in my youth.

Howdy @Hyla. Welcome to the Cafe. I'm balancing out all these former UCC types by actually being a UCC minister. But I don't bite. Not very often, anyway.

Only during the full moon. Which happens to be today. That explains a great deal, doesn't it.

You're a mild-mannered atheist with a beagle named Darwin? I'm just realizing I missed the opportunity to name my kid "Russell" or "Hitch".

Welcome.

Wow! Thanks everybody for the warm welcome.

@Mendalla Thanks for the advice. I already looked through the Basic Posting info but will likely need to check it a few more times. As you may have gathered I am unlikely to be easily frightened by "wierdos". I am an odd duck by logical necessity.

@Waterfall Just hatched and hoping to be a small brown frog when I grow up. That might be a bit ambitious seeing as how colouring in my species is a spectrum genetic trait, literally, with several possible end members. It's also somewhat dependant on diet, mood and hygiene.

@Jae Within reason of course. It needs to be at least believable. If I'd said I was a salamander you'd have simply laughed at me. And rightly so. Everbody knows that they have no tech sense whatsoever, so a salamander on the net is simply preposterous. Mind you, they more than make up for it with their cooking. I've never had salamander cuisine that wasn't superb.

Speaking of the full moon, did you catch it last night while it was next to Jupiter, which is also at inferior conjunction?

@chansen We got our beagle from the SPCA. He'd been on a voyage. We're geeks and some things are necessary. Congrats on not naming your kid either of those. It improves the likelihood that they won't put you in a bad retirement home.

Welcome Hyla. We need some new posters here. Some of us have been around so long we are pretty predictable.

To introduce myself. I have my roots planted firmly in the UCC, but actually I often find my beliefs line up more closely with Mendalla than with some of the people who post here as Christians. I enjoy a good discussion; and a occasionally a good joke.
