Well said (no Like button in this forum, else I'd hit it). We are a branded as a "Welcoming Congregation" (think "Affirming" in UCCan speak) and, yet, there are times when some of us have been less than welcoming, though that lack of welcome has generally been based on issues other than gender and orientation.
Years ago, during the height of the last humanist-spiritual battle, we lost a very good, very valuable new member due to some pig-headed humanists who objected to her universalist, somewhat theistic spiritual views. She ended up in the UCCan for a time and then moved away after she retired and was talking about getting a UU church going in her new hometown. We haven't been in touch in a long time so not sure if that happened or not.
All communities have exceptions to the roués ... just to keep attributes on toes and chewing ... to see what's virtue in that ...
