I volunteered to be on the 'affirming diversity' committee as soon as I heard that our church council was considering the possibility of becoming affirming because it is something that I feel passionate about. I believe some of the others were asked if they would be interested - one person in particular had been pushing for it for some time. I can't be sure what goes on in somebody else's head, nor do I know how maany were asked before the original five were chosen. Perhaps some people said 'That's not something I'd be interested in.' or 'I don't think we should be doing this right now.' or 'I'm too busy.' I do know that the original members were all very enthusiastic -- it was situations that had nothing to do with the church (like a great employment opportunity in another province) that diminished our numbers. Then one person who was away, returned home and two others accepted an invitation to join us. All working towards the same goal. Those opposed, or needing more information, have been given lots of opportunity to express their doubts or to ask questions but so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
We are not only looking into being affirming of the rainbow community, but also of welcoming the economically disadvantaged, and those with other challenges (mobility, vision, mental illness).
Actually, since our church is well known for its welcome of diversity -- ie gay and lesbian people have been married in our church for ten or so years, and many people in the rainbow community play active roles in leadership -- many people are surprised that we are not already 'Affirming'.

Perhaps someone in the know could move this post over to Pinga's thread about Affirming.
 
I find myself slightly stressed. My provincial regulatory body has decided that we need to write an exam to show our continuing competence. I last wrote my qualifying exam 26 years ago. I don't believe an exam will show my competence-or lack thereof.
But I have arranged a proctor-tricky when exam hours do not match my work or my non work hours. I write on Friday afternoon.
I have said I'll move provinces if I do not pass as this is the only province with the exam.

I can't imagine writing such an exam. Or even how such an exam could be put together. Occupational therapists work in such a diversity of settings.
 
Sort of like seniors writing driven exams ... when they were driven in from past experiences that have been forcefull changed due to unthunk alterations. Unth unk as they were manipulated by computers as artificially administered without concerns ... electronic devices have no concerns about humanoids! Thus the "ani" response as is natural nurture of a sole with feeling sensation, intuition and thinking attributes according to the MB construct ... thus ani goes for the gun ... the dark un and we'll be recalled ...
 
Good morning to all in the room.
How are you doing? Is it warm or cold where you are? Here in the Midwest, there was freezing rain the night before last when I went out for dinner to a friends. Pouring rain, dark, sloppy raindrop hits on the dashboard of the rental car, highway area that I do not know that well, interchanges, and hard to see lines. Yup, was not fun...and when I got to the residential area, it was clearly slippery. Yuckie. Thankfully, it was warmer and had turned to snow by the time that I left.
Last night's dinner, it again was snowing and cold, after a beautiful day.
On the other hand, both drives were worth it. The first night spent with a couple who have been friends for many years. She has been a wonderful support through my diagnosis and treatment with practical advice. She is now facing a recurrence of her cancer with many, many tumours, and the prognosis is not great..but....she also is aware of what her targets are. It was good to accompany her, laugh about things that others don't understand, and just be .
The second night was dinner with old managers, directors who have moved to a new organization. Intelligent, challenging, vibrant dialogue of the corporate world. I do appreciate them. A coworker from the past also joined, and the conversation shifted, but, was equally good. I love the smart folks who can rip through conversations, respecting the other's gifts and viewpoints, and incorporating shared information into the dialogue and viewpoints. Lots of "f*** off" and "sh**head" and "jacka**" references, due to the wit and just fun snarkiness of the exchanges. They are good for the soul.
Tonight is another dinner with the same type of ex-employees of our company. These ones I have also worked with closely and they are in the same field as I am. We will miss one of our regular who is having a biopsy today, and so..that will weigh on us, but, the people are good, They will acknowledge, accept, and move on.

So, my wish for you, is that there are people who you have relationships with past your employment who are in your professional field, whatever it may be. Who can share stories, wisdom, laughter, and just razz each other.

Thus we shouldn't speak or the subconscious ... where otherworldly words about a god of wisdom is retained as an mire essence ... that ascent of woman as Eris 'n? I believe there was a film noire about that too ... on the monster that can eat a'mon right up ... and you become chained to it as a natural rule.

Listen to the lie ricks in Marie Leveau ... there a levees that confine what's in Eire ... some times called bleu jinns (genetics) or sad to be oppressed according to ... that ode to the House in New Orleans ... ab ithchii to get entrained in when in Don 'n that want at 4 O'clock in the Morning ?

So many stories, legends, myths, bal lads to collect to begin to see the integrated singularity ... the unmentionable one by those without wile 'f knowing ...

An explicit that comes out of the Hebrew as phoqah .. the little ones making up a domain of chaos? Some people only believe in order, thus no demonstrations of dance, song and parties.

But if we banned parties would we become all seized ... in the seemingly manifest as it appears in Pan's when the kilt lift would serve better as the och mon did ye Z that? Z representing the Zeta summation ... a factor in the observations of the nature of water ... it must be cleared ... so you can see the other third coming forth ... NOSH -ite!

Thus the small matter of wee chit eaters as we cannot observe the cosmological constant immediately ... it takes thyme and exposure to extreme elements of pole-ity ...

Some rear slip or verge 'n may be required ... aB AUM experience ... with a wiggle and wobble that would drive extreme baptism or kohl showers ...

Too many drunks at the hotel this week. I like to have general conversations at the bar, but, the drunks have been a bit much.
In particular, the person was harassing the young woman who is a bartender, putting her in an awkward position.
The night before, the samething.

It is really tiring to watch men harass young women....
 
I'm tired from my day. I was verbally raged at by a difficult person. I did report it to my supervisor but have been unsettled for the day.
This person's difficulties have been noted both at this location and previous place. In my heart I know it wasn't personal but she sure made it sound that way.
I did say I couldn't see this person anymore. (It was very nasty) and did say she had revoked consent and I needed to respect that.
In 26 years of practice I have never said I couldn't provide service.

It sounds like your supervisor is backing you at least. Not fun having to deal with people being nasty. How about some R&R with a cup of tea, I've been enjoying a rooibos blend, by the fire?
 
Thanks but I have one Hilary-I do need a spiffy cover for it though. I have had tea. And lunch with a coworker and a good visit with a newish friend. I know all will be ok by tomorrow-or at least I'll feel settled.

This is why I tend to avoid bars, even when I'm on the road, unless I'm going out with friends or something. I don't handle alcohol well (I get sleepy and cranky rather than fun when I'm drunk) and handle drunks even less well.

I used to just totally mellow right out. Course, I haven't been to a bar for about 30 years now.
 
Well good morning. The sun is shining. The air is crisp. I have had my breakfast, read the wall street journal, checked into WonderCafe, and had a coffee. I really can't procrastinate any more and need to get to work.

Travelling north this weekend to see my sister. Hope people have something fun planned wherever you are.
