Brother & sister-in-law in belleville area have been without power for 10hrs & counting.
We had only a wee bit of ice in our area this morning. it's rained all day, but warm enough to not freeze since morning.

I was a goof this afternoon.
Put a chicken in a pyrex dish instead of the normal metal pan.
It was smelling hot, so thought i would add water from the kettle. Guess it wasn't hot enough.
Now I have an exploded pyrex dish and a raw chicken in the oven.

I saw a post from LBMuskoka. She has a generator and apparently her internet provider has one as well. She comfy. I hope @BetteTheRed is okay.

@JayneWonders well that sucks. Hard lesson to learn.

We seem to have sun trying to show up. Hubby started a campfire. Hopefully that doesn't bring rain. The forecast suggests we get some sun in the next few days. I hope places hit by the ice storm also get sun and warmth soon.

On the other hand. the temperature is -18 and there are piles of snow everywhere.
I think I would take that over the crazy ice storm.

 Just realized I should check on how Ottawa fared. I haven't heard any reports from there so assumed the capital was okay but if Belleville got it bad, probably worth confirming that.

EDIT: Texting the kids. Sounds not great there, though maybe not as bad as what we are hearing from Central Ontario.

Good morning! What a weekend. For those who dealt with ice storms, power outages, icy roads, no phones, and all the other things that can happen in ice storms, we do hope that all is back up and functioning soon. For this, and other topics and events that come to mind today, we gather round the Coffee Cart. Here we discuss, support, and foster community, over tea, coffee, and danishes. The coffee is fresh brewed, tea water boiling, and pastries and warm from the bakery. Come in when you can, join the conversations, and enjoy the goodies. All are welcome, all is ready.

If God is word and word is god ... who works who more in this working word function? Are there abstract exceptions that remain in the dark, closed stacks?

Lib Ray, or rah-rahs ... rumples?

Sounds like my company's Orillia office is still down as of this morning based on what I am hearing from my support staff. Hope folks we know up that way, e.g. Bette, are okay.

Good morning! More rain coming to this area tomorrow, lots of it. Hope it's better where you are! We gather round the Coffee Cart, thinking of those who are still snowed or iced in, hoping power is restored to all soon. We also imbibe coffee, tea, cinnamon buns, and leftover danishes from yesterday. The coffee is fresh brewed, tea water hot, buns are nice and warm from the oven, though the danishes may be cool from spending the night in the fridge, you can warm them in the microwave, if you like. All is ready, everybody is welcome! Come join the conversations!

Looking nice out there right now but apparently it's just a respite, with heavy rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

Bit of a chaotic week in Casa Mendalla due to appointments and such. We will survive.

Son says Ottawa wasn't too bad on the weekend. Icy but power stayed on.

I’m feeling more and more out of touch with the world lately. It started with the Junos and not recognizing the artists and not understanding the clothing. Then I attended a Trivia Night grade 8 fundraiser last night where I further realized my ignorance of pop culture. Today I must reaffirm that I am important in the world even though there is this huge generation gap going on!

There are stranger things to learn under the great mystery ...

And yet the ancient and de (a) NU cannot agree ... thus we slip into delinquency, a kind of vacant spot! I don't know about how it occurs to us either ... but yet necessary for continuance ...

Inde light of what we know ... who was de father of the ultimate? The mystery remains ...

Like Moses ... from time to time we slip into the crevasse ... it was up there like a break inn the clouds! Needed a pome (poem?).

These things are transient ... they may whip through you mind as a flash ... like the Lady of the Lake or Lord Byron's swim ...

Live on the edge like the fringe between absolute and abstract ... get a grip on the other side, know the stranger of the couple ... 11 ... cojoined that's 22!

A bit beyond materialism ...

When a person examines the meaning of Co, Cos, Cosmo, etc. do we tend to feel excluded from the information provided ...

Now from either of the perspectives who feels outside or beyond ... like in an out-of-body situation?

It is almost like a political promise of a free lunch and with no one having to pay ... especially the wealthy that despise taxing situations that take anything away from their accrued position ... ruag eh?

Imagine something for nothing and then they deny the presence of nothing ... a gravid spot in the night's guise! Relax ... it is just the iatrical word ... from the atrium ... far enough out to cause excitement! Linguistic effort is like that if you can cough (choke) up a word or two ...

Filled my gas tank up today....gas was $1.26/litre due to no carbon tax....woohoo!
I wonder if it will come back up soon when warmer temps comes, because summer gas is more expensive?

Our gas was $1.77 or so yesterday when we were out and about. BC has its own carbon tax though. Apparently it will be coming off soon too.

Yesterday was scan day. I see the oncologist on Thursday so will get results then. Some bloodwork numbers are coming down. I'm seeing that as a good sign. They have started building the new cancer centre by the hospital. They had to take down a bunch of trees that made a mini forest because that's where the building will be. It sure changes how things look. They also took some lovely cherry trees down that were along the road. Those trees were delightful when they were in bloom. They will be missed.

I didn't watch, just kept an eye on a couple categories. Did watch CBC's video of the Sum41 performance. They were inducted into the Hall of Fame and this was to be their final performance (though given the history of rock bands "final performance" being less than final, we shall see). Was disappointed that my favourites, Spiritbox, were once again bridesmaids in both categories that they were nominated in but maybe next year. Their new album is fantastic. Unfortunately, being metal in Canada doesn't translate to awards as well as it might in some European and Latin American countries. OTOH, the winners in both categories are also terrific bands, just not favourites of mine.

I'm sorta back in the land of communication. That was very interesting, and it is not over. Lost power pretty well everywhere in Barrie, after a lot of warning flickers and short outages in the afternoon of Saturday, at about 6 p.m. We were in the middle of doing dishes for the first of two servings of our spring dinner at the church. I spent the next three hours washing dishes by hand until we ran out of water, then we did a few loads with pots warmed on the gas stove, then gave up. They may remain there still, as there's still no power at the church, which has some internal electrical problems because of the outage. No service Sunday, my big guy's house finally got power back 7-ish last night. It's been warm enough here, though, due to a gas fireplace in the living room, so I've been sleeping here and running to my house to make coffee and hot water on my gas stove. My house is still without power, my boarder has been spending nights at her brother's, her son's, because it's now very cold in the house (8 when I was there this a.m.). The actual damage is insignificant. My ancient locust has had a severe-fish pruning which will probably do it no harm, the falling branches pretty well toppled an ancient crooked trellis sagging under a huge grape vine. I have a lot of wood to move. I've invited my neighbour and her sister over for dinner and warming this evening.

Obviously, have had no access to the internet. Did any necessary communication by text, but charging devices becomes a challenge.

If you love trees, driving around Barrie right now is a very painful experience. I got lucky, many did not.

I know from work there's still Internet problems in Peterborough but I think power is back. Other areas where we have offices seem to have recovered.

It's good to hear from you Bette. What an ordeal. I've seen some pictures of the storm. Ice storms are always devastating.
