How annoying @Waterfall! Some noises you can get used to but not that one! We have a noisy clock but I don’t notice it any more. In my much younger years I lived next to a train track and I learned to block out those sounds too.

I haven't made scones much since butter prices went up.
I do love them, and they are so easy to make different varieties.

Thanks @Waterfall

@Nancy - our previous house was close to the railroad tracks. We didn't notice it. Kids loved it. When my brother came to stay it kept him awake.
@Waterfall - my parents had a massive grandfather clock that went off every 15 minutes, then full set on the hour. I didn't even notice it when sitting beside it, had lived with it for so long. Others stopped conversation when it chimed
It's funny how we can adapt to what is normal and it takes someone else to point it out.

This is so true, we had a grandfather clock for years, the chimes were beautiful and I enjoyed it AND @Nancy I also grew up near trains, but there's something I find annoying about this " beep".....if it never stopped I suppose I'd adapt.....but for now, it's keeping me awake.

Oh, Waterfall.

There are some noises such as beeping smoke detectors that you don't want to get used to. They are annoying for a reason.

The fridge has an open door alarm.
Ours was going off intermittently.
Drove me nuts. If i had had cash laying around I am sure that i would have replaced it.
Figured out that if we did a wierd thing with the temperature control and the alarm, it would stop.
Not sure what happened, but it quit alarming about a month ago, and hasn't beeped since.

It woke me in the night
It drove me crazy.

I would not like your smoke alarm. Frustrating.

I grew up in earshot of the Conestoga Parkway in Kitchener and the section near us was kind of elevated so the houses between us and it did not really block the noise. And we didn't have AC. So, yeah, in summer we had the windows open all night and could hear the traffic but were definitely used to it.

Those high pitched "beep" noises are the worst, I think. Worse than various vehicle noises. Trains and traffic tend to be a low pitch, kind of a steady rumble. "Beeps" are sharp and sudden. At least that's kind of my thought on it.

When laboring on ocean going vessels ... there is this constant roar in the engine room ... it is worrisome when it stops ...

A floating concern? Grift ...

We have a neighbour who leaves for work early in the morning. I don't hear that anymore. We can also hear the ferry leaving every two hours or so. The first ferry at 0515 doesn't wake us anymore.

I woke up yesterday to find that my (bleep) Honda dealer's robocaller called my cell at 5:25am. Fortunately, I am not on call this week because getting rolled out of bed by my phone only to find it was a (bleep) robocall about a stupid event they are having (even the name, "Flip Your Whip", is stupid and open to some rather lewd interpretations) would not have gone over well. As it is, I left a complaint on their contact form. Had I actually been awakened by it, there would have been a curt email to the director I know there (his wife used to work for my employer).

Someone programmed that robocaller badly. When we lived in the BC Peace we often got late night calls because our 250 area code made people think we were in the BC time zone when we were in AB time zone. I challenged one person and asked him why he was calling so late. He told me it was 9:00 and disputed my assertion it was 10:00. I responded by asking him if I didn't know what time it is where I am and hung up.

There are some that don't know where they've gone ... and many that haven't gone far enough to know the depths of the engine room ... there the ultimate driving force ... diabolical to those of blocked regard! Imagine non observances of vision and loss of other senses as related ... approaches non-sense! When you get to the present domain we're in a person should appreciate lack of knowledge and what it does to the entire flock ... collective forces?

The examples are ultimately unlimited they way mortals are cranked out ... I tend to associate with the deeper unconscious as there is a lot of matter to study there ... non matter too as there is a lot of excitable folk!

Virtue of literal chaos breaking into literary DIN ...

So today will be a quiet day. I've had a few very busy days in a row so today is a rest up day. It will involve working on a sock and reading a book. Not at the same time. :)

Ta Da.....smoke alarm just needed a new back up battery, and it's fixed!
We just assumed that it was just hard wired into the apt. building. Didn't realize it also had a back up battery.
Sooooo, hopefully a better sleep.
You are supposed to change your battery in the smoke detectors every time the time changes ( winter/ summer time). To avoid this kind of disturbance, I suppose. Last time I had to replace my smoke alarm ( they are good for 10 years), I got myself one that doesn’t need battery replacing for its lifetime ( I suppose it has a kind of rechargeable battery in it). So if you landlord is checking out the smoke alarm, he might also check if it hasn’t expired ( they have expiry dates on them).

Good morning @Mrs.Anteater
You and I are the first ones at the coffee cart this morning. Funny how often this happens. The digital cat was meowing for her breakfast so I fed her.

Good morning! For chirping smoke detectors, becoming accustomed to night time noises, and early morning sounds, badly programmed robocalls, for all the other stuff that may come up, the Coffee Cart is the place to bring it. We can talk it over, provide support, or at least commiserate with you, so you know you are not alone. The coffee is fresh brewed, tea water boiling, croissants are warm. Come by when you have the chance and join the conversations! All is ready, all are welcome.

Here's a Beta consideration; about Je sus 2nd last words: "Lord they know not what they are doing!" It is said that was their primal desire (to know naught).

Then the last words were it is done ... and the lights went out as it slipped, lost down a huge Kra*Quo! Isn't that thick and dense?

Total disposal came forth ... as prodigal ... now to escape this wasteland one has to be in a state with nothing left to lose ... and there HEH (ה) went ... a defining space ... as Hebrew icon ... semi tite it is sacred. Few grasped ... the hand slipped from that 3rd position on the Wahl ...

Explains why there's next to nothing beyond us ... it just follows in the go round, when dealing with hostile and vicious as ordinary!

Do you know the ordinary folk as Eeyore self? Sacred mullers? Life is a grind and then we goes ... that's all there is to nothing! It gets past Don ... as only nothing is perfectly lacking ... rejected philosophy?

I was told in the assembly that knowledge is evil and the worst was philosophy ... the love of prodigal .. a waste on the part of mystery! W/O question none queue dupe ... they were dis interested ... not empathetic but apathetic ...

We just will not have bad news and thus they didn't see ide coming ... the primal item! Brutish?
